Any safe areas in Bogotá, Colombia? I am interested in moving there. But there needs to be at least one somewhat large area where I can walk around, eat etc. Like Poblado in Medellin.
Otherwise I guess living in a gated community is the best bet? Is this where Bogotás rich and famous live?
No place is completely immune from danger not even el Poblado, Medellin but if that is your reference for comparison then anything north of Calle 72 (Avenida Chile) is fine.
Although personally I prefer to be in the action near downtown. 'Chapinero alto' in the middle is less cookie-cutter developed city lifestyle than Poblado, Medellin or north Bogota but still has relative safety.
The 2 other posters know way more then me in regards to Bogota... but I wanted to mention that in general if you are not that important ex walkning around ike the average person then not likely you are going to be a target for crimes lime a robbery. My family did not have any problems anywhere in Bogota and Cartagena. I was worried about wearing a designer l purse to make myself seem like a target to be robbed ... but then felt stupiid because in Zona Rosa and other parts around there it was pretty normal to see women wearing designer bags. So if you are not standing out then why woukd it be a big deal?
I have family who live in Bogota and went to visit them. The woman has had some issues living there. When we visited they warned us about specific taxis, areas, etc. It wasn't one of my favorite places to visit...and not being fluent in Spanish was a real hassle. Not a place I'd likely visit again much less live there. If you are serious though I highly recommend googling (and joining) expats groups. Expats are the best source of info when moving to another country. Here's one to get you started.... How to Bogotá - Helping new arrivals in Bogotá to settle in!. Good luck!

Cuarta A is a new consolidated "hip" zone of Bogota...
