Colombia has a SUBSTANTIAL amount of black people. They are the majority on either coast and West African heritage has become mainstream Colombian culture reflected in dance, music, even festivities.
There is a town now gaining international prominence called Palenque, Palenque is a town outside the very black city of Cartagena de Indias, in Palenque the dominant language is Zulu.
Palenque was born as a hideaway village, where slaves that ran away could go and settle in secret. Back then it was out in the rainforest, however in the 21st century with modern roads its just an hour outside Cartagena.
If you were to do a DNA test on all Colombians, the majority could easily have West African heritage. You can even see it in the heightof Colombians *who tend to be taller than their fellow mestizo counterparts in Mexico, Peru etc.*
They also tend to have more pronounced musculatures, and women more curvy bodies. This is not common in places without strong West African input like Mexico or Peru.
While the bodies of Peruvians, Central Amercans and Mexicans reflect Asian traits more *From the Natives that crossed the bering strait*, Colombians, Venezuelans, Brazilians reflect this afro, euro, native melange.
Now Colombian cities are experiencing a mass migration of black Colombians leaving villages and coastal towns and moving inland in search of economic opportunities, so cities like Medellin, Bogota that traditionally were more Spanish in the middle classes, and Mestizo in the lower classes are becoming more black too.
This is very positive, because it is going to cause Colombia to analize its identity.

The Caribbean region isn't black majority. Neither Barranquilla, Santa Marta, Riohacha, Valledupar, Monteria or Sincelejo are black majority. Even Cartagena isn't black majority.
The only area of the Caribbean region that is unquestionably black majority are the islands of San Andres and Old Providence and the Uraba-Cartagena coastal corridor.
The Pacific Coast is indeed black majority with close to 90% black majority.

Yes it is black majority, just looking at the people you can tell there is African heritage
Unless we use the standard from brazil, you know if you are black but someone in your family is not then you're not really black Because you're not that dark
One doesn't have to be an expert to look at people in a big part of Colombia and see that they all have African heritage to varying degrees

You can also go to cities like cali or Medellin See women with round butts and full lips… And people with eye shapes that look like the eye shapes of west Africans.
They may not be black, but you don't have to be a geneticists to realise that there is a west African Genetic input there
Colombia is an overwhelmingly white/mestizo country. Black people are a minority. They are only a majority on the Pacific Coast.
I'm from Santa Marta and I know for sure I'm not black.
There are a number of genetic studies and the Colombian population as a whole only has 9% SSA admixture including both coasts, in cities like Bucaramanga, Manizales, Pereira, Villavicencio, Neiva, Ibague, Pasto, Cucuta, Bogota, Tunja, Medellin, etc. the percentage drops dramatically. The remaining 91% is either European/Middle Eastern or Native American, with the European share being the most representative.
This applies to coastal cities too like Barranquilla or Santa Marta on the North Coast, even more so in cities like Tunja or Bogota where black people were never part of the cities' history.
Cali has a large minority of black people but they are not a majority and they hardly mix with the local population. Black people in Cali come from Buenaventura and other towns located on the Pacific Coast. Cartagena on the other hand has a large population of mulattos and black people mixed with other groups to varying degrees given as it was a slave port but they don't make up a majority.
What's up with black people on this forum and their obsession with portraying Latin America as a black continent. Africa and countries like Haiti are the only places where black people are a majority.

And I will go on to add that in the future, black people will not be a majority in Africa either. Africa will become Asian/European (white). I refuse to believe that whites are becoming a minority anywhere on this earth when everyone is closer to being aligned or identifying with white people, except for the black population which has been and will continue dropping out fast and steadily.

Whats up with the Colombians on this forum being so insecure and aggressive about racial issues?

Irene i.e. backpacker and oraculo are not the only representatives of Colombia in this forum. FYI, notice how they have opposing views on this subject. YES you can be of the same nationality and have different views! Go figure.
You're ceeding too much importance to Irene, even on the Mexican forum. Everyone on the site knows how she is. UsuariodeldÃa, Joacocanal and myself are contributors to the forum also, 80skeys is also part colombian.

If the numbers of Africans go down in Africa it's because huge numbers of them move to Europe.
Of course, this is the stupidest post around. There's no mass movement of Europeans or Asians to Africa. Frankly, it didn't happen during colonialism because Europeans could not take the climate nor the tropical diseases/parasites.
