I really want to thank the ones who suggested Treeforms. What a great store! They had a nice sofa, it was only a little more than the ones at Ashley's and it looks much better made. Their wood furniture is pricey, but gorgeous. I'll probably have to buy "disposable" furniture for the dining area for now, but I wanted a sofa that would hold up for a while.

I've looked at Costco online and will swing by there. They get great reviews.

I guess I should say what I ended up doing...I bought stuff from most of the places in town. Here is a summary of my impressions/decisions.

Treeforms-definitely my favorite store. They would allow me to look around without a sales person sticking to me like glue and they had beautiful furniture. I only bought the sofa there and it was reasonable priced and seems good quality. The wood pieces were gorgeous and well made, but too expensive for me to put in a rental. Delivery right on time!

ScanHome-Sales staff here also allowed me to look around without pressure, but were helpful. They have some pricey stuff, but also some midrange/midquality stuff. I bought neat dining room chairs there and a twin bed set. The bedroom furniture is hardwood, but isn't as well made as Treeforms. The dining chairs look great, but didn't have any floor protectors on the leg bottoms. Price was cheaper though. Also great delivery service.

Penney's-I found a nice table on clearance there and a chair and ottoman. The quality seems pretty good. They don't have sales=a constant price. They seemed to have a lot of new staff so the paperwork was cumbersome, but sales people were nice enough.

Ashley's-I bought a cheap bedroom set there. I couldn't really find one I liked that was reasonable enough for a rental and figured this will let me replace it sooner. I also found some nice accessories there and an end table. I was in there several times and overall, they had good service. They don't have the quality some of other stores have, but prices are cheaper.

Sadlers- I only bought a hall bench there (and it required assembly!). I went in again, but their policy is that a sales agent has to be with you (I was told that 2x). I like to look, inspect, then think and look more and just hated being followed. No "just looking around" there. They have a mix of nice things with some junk so you really have to look carefully at the furniture.

I looked at Fred Meyer, too and loved a couple of their funky chairs, but they didn't fit the decor and I returned the one I bought. It was cheap quality and cheap price, but cute. I looked at their wood tables and think they were as good a quality as some of the other stores (Ashley and Bailey's and some at Sadler's_. The price was cheaper because labor costs were low. I would consider buying a wood table there.

I did go to Bailey's but didn't end up buying anything there. I also looked in the garish pink building next to them and they had some very nice, very pricey furniture-more unique things.

Note: I used a service called Tuggles to pick up part of furniture. Costco gave me the name and I was very pleased with them. They weren't cheaper than furniture stores, but could deliver it quicker. They also picked up from both Penney's and Ashley's, so I only had to wait for one delivery. They set it up just as the stores did and were very nice. With the PFD sales, some stores had waits for delivery..

Thanks for the update equinox1 it was useful to read your experiences.

One thing we found out as we are trying to furnish our rental place is that Ashleys, Sadlers, Lazyboy and one other which I can't remember now are all part of the same group. This means if you are getting furniture on credit it is valid in all the stores and we think if you can organise it you only end up paying one delivery fee if it is all being delivered at the same time even if it is from different shops.
