Yeah, at long last! Just measured 13 inches out the back door and still snowing. Didn't even need snowshoes up at Thompson Pass yesterday, but winter's finally here!

So you Alaskans like winter eh?

Just harassing you! I'm born and raised in So Cal and love reading the Alaska forums! There's an attraction here, but my sorry self probably wouldn't last a winter there, however, I love reading about your lifestyle!

I'm not a total So Cal snow virgin though... my hubby and I lived in Crestline in the San Bernadino mountains for over 2 years, (don't laugh!) and commuted to Anaheim.
We had these things called Spider Spikes for our front tires for the snow but the real challenge was the thick fog going up the mountain! The road is pretty winding, the fog's like soup, and everyone's at a crawl. We had to open the door a couple of times to see where the line was. Eventually, you got to know the curves on the odometer!
Alas, hubby got a new job further south and couldn't take a daily round trip 4 hour commute any longer so we moved back "down the hill". We still miss living there. Small town, different type of characters that we loved!

BTW, my husband is from England where it rains A LOT! When I spent time over there briefly, I got a taste for the cool wet weather, and now get really cranky when it gets over 70 degrees here... which means I'm cranky a lot!

Anyway, it's on my bucket list to visit your beautiful state, but I promise to go home!
Enjoy your snow!
