Question. I am also considering accepting a job in Alaska. Had you ever been up for a visit before this move, or did you just jump in? Also, how are things going? I hope you guys love it there!

I have been here before: 2001 June for my honeymoon; then again 2005 June for a family trip. the family has always known that we were moving to Alaska. We were moving up to Anchorage next summer (2014), but I accepted a job in late November, then drove up in December, started the job Monday of last week.

This is the first time I have lived in snow-country. It is just a learning curve, hasn't been bad, just different (doable). Everyone has been so very nice, haven't met anyone I dislike, so far. Everyone is helpful and give advice on living up here, so I am sure with all this help that the learning curve won't be difficult. I so look forward to learning the many adventures.

I live near where I work, so I don't have to drive far. It is different living in an apartment, since I hear my upstair neighbors, and we all share a coin-op laundry room, and you hear visitors going up and down the entryhall stairs, doors opening and closing. I have to get use to the noises.

Having to plug in the van each night is something I have never had to do, but it is just a new step in a daily routine, which is doable. I went out this past weekend to the Polar Plunge, which was waaayyy awesome, watching people plunge into the frigid, icy water to raise money for the Special Olympics of Alaska. I took lots of pictures, met new people, enjoyed myself ALOT. I look forward to the adventures that await me on the weekends: photo opportunities, walking in the snow, sipping hot chocolate in a bookstore as I browse the titles.... so much more... I think the best part is meeting the people, I have heard such wonderful stories of their lives in Alaska...

Alaska may not be for everyone, but for this lady.... I think it is a good fit to my life.
