I was trying to read between the lines and determine the OP's intent. People aren't always clear about what they're looking for, I think the original post was a good example. I could be wrong, but it didn't seem like a troll post to me.

The problem is...is that anyone can read whatever they want "between the lines." That doesn't make it so, sorry. There was no mention of live arts, so maybe you're just transposing your own cultural preferences onto the OP. I honestly don't know where you're getting the live arts angle. I would have guessed that the OP was more worried about whether people in Anchorage can or do read.

Again, the guy asked if people had "stable jobs" and whether he would be able to "have a conversation" with most people in Anchorage. It may or may not be a "troll post," but it was certainly an ignorant one. It was also a grammatical mess, but I didn't see anyone shrilling at his substandard linguistic skills.

I get to call the OP ignorant because I've got my apostrophes in place, I suppose.

You're welcome.

I won't point out the delicious irony here, but thanks for the laugh.

Only the OP can tell us what he meant, I can only say how I interpreted it. Maybe I'm completely off in the weeds

But it seemed to me the OP wanted to know if there are people in Anchorage with similar interests, and provided some ideas on what those interests are, which I interpret to be things like live arts, literary clubs, etc. I didn't see an intent to disparage. But that's just my opinion.

For whatever it's worth, I don't think it was a troll post, either, but there's only so much you can tell from a few words online, particularly when those few words were not well-chosen.

Being ignorant of Alaska is certainly no crime, especially for a student from as far off as New England. Nonetheless...there's something to be said for developing social skills. Even the most well-read Alaskans may not want to have a conversation with someone who has clearly voiced trepidations about whether the average Anchoragite can manage to hold a steady job and can use and understand words of more than one syllable.

You will also notice that despite the obvious linguistic deficiencies displayed by the OP, no one in this forum started shrilling that they found it "deliciously ironic" that he was asking about the education levels of Alaskans while displaying the substandard language skills indicative of the poorly educated. It wasn't until the spelling-challenged Canadian grammar troll started yelping about the misplaced apostrophe that it was even mentioned.

Yes, but it seems to Harrier that the OP wouldn't have asked such questions in the Chicago, L.A., or San Francisco forums.

Why ask such a question in the Anchorage forum?
