y2kat2003 We are going to be using our GPS to drive, but we had to update our maps on the Garmin because it didn't have Canada and Alaska on it. I hope that it will make the drve a bit easier using it...

Other than travel through some cities in the U.S. and Canada, you really don't need a GPS to drive the Alcan. It's really just one main road so it's hard to get lost. Also, from other threads, it seems the road maps aren't that accurate here. Streets in Anchorage can be 100 yards off on the GPS.

I just got the Garmin, I think nuvi 255. I called to make sure it included all of North America so that I don't have to update the maps. Do you know anything about the TDY money? How far along are ya'll on the out-processing process?

Default What to bring on a week long road trip

I am wondering what kinds of things are needed when traveling from GA to AK. I am sure blankets are needed and a first aid kit, water, food, etc. What else would anyone suggest that has driven to AK from the lower 48?

That time of year, you definitely run the risk of running into snowy conditions. The temperatures shouldn't be too bad though.
