Eagle River is NOT a 20 minute drive to midtown. Plan on at least 45 minutes in the morning commute traffic and the afternoon drive home. I drove it for 6 months. You spend 20 minutes just getting from Bragaw to Midtown.

And I have heard that there are lawsuits against Weidner, and that they never give deposits back.

I was thinking the same, I live in Muldoon and it takes me 20 min. to get to midtown.

You might be able to get from Eagle River to downtown in 20 min, if there is no traffic.

I'm planning to move out of state, so my apartment will be available.
Really nice, with the lake outside your window, the best view in Midtown I think. Very quite people around, heated garage and etc...

rents for 1200, but really really good and safe place to live.

We finally bought a house to solve the pet problem, but Anchorage is not the most pet-friendly rental place. That's one good thing about Weidner, you can get a place instantly that will take a pet. We lived in a Weidner rental down on Campbell Lake in south Anchorage for 4 years before we found a place to buy. The rent was high & the apartment a very tiny 2 bedroom, but our dog and cats were welcome & the apartment was in great shape, new carpet, paint, etc. Ghetto-free. It was fine for a starter apartment. We tried for years to find a bigger rental that took pets with no success. NO PETS is a major issue in Anchorage rentals.

Keep well clear of Weidner, they even charge for water its amazing I rented for a year with them and I had a one bedroom and charged me anything from $32 to $42. I was gone for two months and they still charged me water rates even although the apartment was empty. Trouble is that the state of Alaska allows this company to get away with it. Weidner were sued over late rent last year and had to pay out too the people who they had ripped off. If it were not for the military this organization would never be in operation . Every chance they get they rip off their tenants. Proceed very much with caution with this crowd !

We love our midtown neighborhood in College Gate up against the APU ski/biking/walking trails. We can walk our dog out the back door on trails. A plus for dog owners like us is that it's right at the University Lake off-leash dog park. We did have a moose charge us this morning, but other than that we find it a very safe neighborhood!!
