Hillside Baptist Church. A family member of mine is the pastor. But you may not be Baptist, but if you are they are wonderful people to know, Gary and Sheila.

I would agree with the Changepoint suggestion. They are nondenominational. Also, TL551, thanks for the "meetup" information. There were a lot of interesting groups on there.

I really like CCA (Christian Church of Anchorage) The people there are very nice and welcoming. And even my first time there I never felt out of place. I know they do other things besides just a church service, but I have only gone to one of two of them. Good Luck!

Don't want to start a war here, but I'm honestly curious. I TOTALLY appreciate how a church can provide social support through small groups, etc. But there are MANY ways to find or establish group experiences (libraries, service organizations, community college, bars, gyms, non profit volunteering, etc.) I always thought picking a church had more to do with what you believe about who/what God is, what our relationship is to God, what our responsibility is to each other and the planet ....that sort of stuff. But I guess there are lots of different reasons for different people.... As for a church that offers good support in small groups, if you are still interested email me privately at belladonnapiranha@yahoo.com

I found a great friend, but not the small group I was looking for. Not yet. Thanks to all who shared information pertaining to my question. I have taken the advise from those who posted and visited a couple different Church's who encourage small groups, but I'm still not clear as to which one I'll end up at. I'm kind of being patient as to what community of believers I hope to become a part of.

Lately I've been preoccupied enjoying and investing in this new friendship among other things. He is much older than I am, so I kind of view him more as a mentor, a teacher, someone who shares biblical wisdom with a lot of life experience to go with it. He's very wise and likes to give me insight about his relationship with Jesus. My new friend actually lives according to what he believes. Something I could use a little help with. Oh, and AADAD, he certainly has your sense of humor! lol

I am really having a great time here in Anchorage and thanks to all of you who shared with this thread. It's proving to be very helpful.
