I am a 64 year-old man who lives in San Diego CA. I was born in Phoenix in 1945 and I moved to San Diego in 1989. I have not been home to Arizona, except for a side trip to the Grand Canyon while vacationing in Las Vegas, since 1989. I have about one acre of unimproved land east of Show Low, just across the county line in Apache county. I would like to know what it is like to live in Navaho or Apache counties these days. I would like to know anything and everything about ANY settlements in both counties. Thank you for your time.

Well, I moved from Pinetop in 2004, but nobody else has answered yet, so . . .

Basically you will want to probably do your shopping in ShowLow, they have a safeway, wal-mart, home depot but if you need plumbing supplies go straight to HD Supply (formerly Mountain Country Supply/Hughes Supply). It will be closer and better than going towards St Johns/Eagar/Springerville. Sounds like you will be in or near Vernon, but all that's there is a gas station/conveneince store.

I know it's incomplete, but that gives you a start. I envy you, you'll be living in a beautiful area real close to even more beauty.

good luck

I just joined this forum and since I'm new to forums, I don't know how to start a new topic or thread. I am planning on moving to a rural area in the Show Low, Arizona or Snowflake Arizona area, but I am really concerned about the drug problems. I have horses and am looking for a nice quiet place to live, but from what I am reading, the drug and crime problem is so bad that it sounds like if you leave and go into town, druggies are going to come and steal everything you have. Does anyone have more information on the area as far as a safe place for a single woman to live? Also, is there much difference between Snowflake and Show Low as far as living in the country?

If I have posted this in the wrong place, I apologize in advance, but I am frustrated because I have spent the last 30 minutes trying to find some instructions on how to post to this forum, or someone I could contact to ask this question to.

If you folks use the Search function of the Forum and insert Show Low there are lots of results.

Start by looking at the town's websites.
Show Low
Pinetop-Lakeside
Snowflake
Taylor

You can always contact the town police for info about crime.

And read the local newspaper - - White Mountain Central Online

I camped last October at Fool Hollow. We were alone (2 sisters), and never felt threatened at all. Can't wait to move to the White Mountains! (Well, to be honest, Rim Country is running a very close second!)

Thanks for the response, I actually have been reading the online versions of the newspapers and that's why I am feeling somewhat alarmed. So I thought maybe there would be some local residents or other horse owners from the area on this forum that might be able to give me a little bit more information.<br>

Show Low is mentioned in the City by City thread.

But it's not as popular to talk about as the other high elevation towns. Which is fine by me - hopefully less people will be moving there

Could anyone recommend a college to take some computer courses at in Show Low? I checked out the Pioneer College website but they didn't have what I was looking for. Also N. Az Univ. but I'd have to independently wealthy to take a class there! (As an out-of-state resident)

As far as I know, those are the only 2 with satellite campuses in the area.
They might have tech or business schools there.
