Word is Wal Mart is going to break ground for a new store in Ft Mohave just below Aztec.

Does anybody know if the Bullhead store will stay or will it be closed since it's about 5 miles from the new 1 on Hwy 95?

Walmart is the end of the free market wherever they go. Small business can't compete with Government Subsidized poverty wages.

Uh; where have YOU been living in 2014? Wal Mart is just as expensive as Smiths here. Sheesh!

The paper said they were going to keep both stores open. We will see. Probably misinformation, though I read somewhere that WalMart only needs a 12,000 customer base to be profitable. Don't quote me on that.

One reason the Hancock and Marina business districts have been so devastated is a result of the 5 big box stores (WM, Target, HD, Lowes and Sams Club) killing small businesses. This issue has never been addressed to my knowledge. The same thing is going to happen in Ft. Mohave to any of the stores that compete in Wal Marts business areas. While complimentary businesses will excell - the Mexican restaurant next door is going to make a killing!

The big issue that nobody is addressing is the sale tax issue. There are plans to increase the sales tax in BHC from 2% to 3% - to help with road repairs. That will be 3% higher than in the county where the new Wal Mart will be. That is $30 more on a $1,000 TV or $1,000 more on a $30,000 car.

When the new WM opens BHC is going to take a hit on the sales tax revenues. I would hazard a guess WM is the areas largest tax revenue source. The lost revenue will tend to offset any increase in taxes that might have gone to street repairs. Maybe if the State wasn't stealing all the gas tax money that was supposed to fix the roads...

Maybe tho Smiths is doing Ok down by Hancock and Lakeside. Word is there WAS a Bashas many years ago down by where the new tractor supply place is opening.

^^ Yes, there was a Bashas, I think in the same space. Not sure if Smiths killed them or if it was a combination of Safeway, Smiths and Wal Mart. Now they want to put in another grocery in Old Bullhead somewhere. Not sure there is a customer base for that. But would reduce the drive for Laughlinites and folks at the north end of town. Doesn't do anything to offset sale tax loss though.

Sams probably covers Laughlin tho the closest "regular" big grocery store for them is Safeway near Lowes. Bashas was in the same mall where the tractor place is going in.

Mohave Daily News article says that BOTH Wal Marts will stay open tho IMHO the Bullhead store will close within a year.
