That will depend on the infrastructure of each municipality, there is no generic answer. Most if not all municipalities rely on well water to some extent, which is run through a treatment plant prior to delivery to residents. Have you had a bad experience with water from a private well ?

Wow what a thought.
Williams for one relied mostly on water reservoirs for there water supply and they dried up and caused water shortages.
Not a lot of places to choose from without a ton of research to locate property with a running creek for water but again you never know what critter did what in there upstream.
You could potentially run a rain gutter system into a catchment basin during monsoon season and treat and use that year round.
But again well water take a sample and have it tested.
Getting water from a water store could get expensive and reverse osmosis has issues as well.
Will be interesting to see how this plays out.

well then I won't even tell you where most Arizona residents get their drinking water from, because it might gross you out even more

our ancestors ALL got their water from a well...(or worse!)

regular testing and filtering is normal....

There are some properties South and West of Tucson that, due to large underground mines in the area, are not allowed to have wells and must rely on water being trucked in and stored in large tanks.

Personally, I believe I would prefer WELL WATER over that option.

Well let's start over here ... how about you mention a few places that you are interested in and then maybe folks who are familiar with those areas can comment as to the availability of water sources other than wells? But without some idea of that, at the very least, it will be impossible to tell you what water sources are available in all of Arizona's 114,000 square miles.

It does sound like you're going to be limited to being near one of the many cities in the state, though, and even then you may end up using well water - or trucking your own in. And, of course, you have the option to truck in your own water wherever you live ...

Doesn't pretty much everyone in the state with city water have "well water" as a good chunk/at least a portion of the water coming out of their tap because it's from underground sources?

Well - I'm going with the assumption that city-treated well water is not what the poster is referring to. He's decidedly light on details, so I'm taking some liberty there, but I "guess" that he means private or small community shared wells, not the well water that some of the folks in the middle of Tucson and Phoenix are drinking.

Also not sure that well water constitutes the majority of our drinking water any longer anyhow - I know that Tempe's water is mostly from the SRP, for example, and Scottsdale is mostly from CAP, and "Phoenix" in general is more a mix of those two than ground water any longer. Not sure where Tucson falls on the spectrum of CAP water versus groundwater ...

"My cousin has well water"....and where does your cousin live ? Has the water been tested ? What are the contents of that water that make it so objectionable ? Has the water been treated/conditioned to remove the offending properties ?

There are probably hundreds of thousands of private wells in the country that provide potable water, why measure all wells against your cousins well ?
