YES. I-10 just needs to be expanded south of Phoenix. It's especially inadequate going through Tucson. I don't see the need to spend billions upon billions to build an all new freeway that would go through nothing between Tucson and Phoenix. the 60/93 corridor makes perfect sense to improve to federal interstate highway standards and is already close to that in some places. I think that's all that is really needed to make a viable connection route between Phoenix and Vegas, and would be mutually beneficial for both places.

I've already requested the thread to be moved to the Arizona forum since I 11 affects more than Phoenix and OP was about Tucson.

Thanks. I should have started the thread there in the first place... my bad.

NBD I think most posters realized that and didn't mind. Some get bent outta shape instead.

I think it's similar to that weird paradox where veteran posters (not me) get upset when newbies start new threads and ask same/similar things that have been asked over and over, and get chastised for not using the search function. Then when they do bring up an old zombie thread and post to it, they get chastised again for doing that. Damned if you do, damned if you don't!

I guess being on here for 9 years (has it really been that long!), I've seen and read a lot and with my easy going personality never got too bent out of shape when threads go off on tangents, but that's me, life is too short, it's just a message board.

Tucson actually does a good job with traffic signal progression.

I used to live on the West Side (Grant/Silverbell) and worked on the East Side (Speedway/Kolb).

If I caught a green light at Speedway/Campbell I'd usually be able to get greens all the way until Wilmot.
Sort of agree, although the lights can be aggravating when you need to be somewhere on time. It's like a futile exercise trying to get anywhere fast because it won't happen.

I don't really understand the point of I11 south of Casa Grande, Huckelberry pushed for it and complained Tucson was skipped over, but all it does is run parallel to I10 and encourage western sprawl in the area.

Here is the schedule for the public meetings on the I-11 study this month...

I-11 & Intermountain West Corridor Study

I encourage everyone to please attend one if you can. There have been some good suggestions in this topic and it would be a shame for those not to be heard.

A large portion of Grand would have to be built as a tunnel because of downtown Glendale and downtown Peoria. And because they are next to each other it would probably be easier to make it all a tunnel. It would be extremely expensive and even longer than the Downtown tunnel, would it be useful yes, but the money for it would be outrageous. I personally would love to see Grand become a freeway, I use the road often, I live near it and I absolutely hate it. But I still don't think it will be a freeway, it's too late for that. Grand should have converted in the 90s or so, before the big boom. I remember the 101 being constructed at that time and I still see how LV-Phoenix connection would have been easier to pass.

Blame Gov Symington, he cut the 1985 freeway plan to shreds in order to cut taxes, which completely removed 50 (Paradise Parkway), 202 South Mountain, 303, and the Grand Ave freeway upgrade, at least prop 400 gave us the 303 and 202 South Mountain back

I've never driven on Grand Ave. Is most of the road below grade and are there a lot of stop light intersections?
