Benson is nice. It's a rural community with a low population. It's about 45 minutes from Tucson. If you want peace and quiet in a nice area, choose Benson. If you want a bit of "city life", with all of its conveniences, choose Tucson. If you want a huge disappointment, choose Kingman.

Thanks for that advice, DesertLass101. Kingman sounds like it's not for us.

Here's a clue: When your entire experience with a town is stopping and getting gas, this doesn't qualify you to speak for the town.
We have lived in Kingman for 10 months now. I have found it to be a great little town (Kingman is a city in and the county seat of Mohave County, Arizona, United States. The population of the city is approximately 29,068.)Many activities and things to do. Just the last few weekends we have gone to Andy Devine days, October fest, Alpaca days, Historical walk down RT 66 With Jim Hinckley, and sampled rum at the Desert Diamond distillery. We live in a Middle class neighborhood (Nurses, Police, Coca Cola,Retirees etc) Great neighbors. Most are friendly. Beautiful views of Hualapai mountains, and Bull mountain. Thanks Kdog for your positive feedback.

It's like there are 2 "Kingmans" 1's the city and the other's county. Birdland and so on are Mohave County. Riata Valley's is city and, most of Kingman city's Ok IMHO.

We're coming to Kingman this winter and plan to look at relocating from Montana. As we get older, we do not like all the snow and cold. What areas of town do you recommend? Prefer home under $150,000. Would like rv parking, nice neighborhood so it will still be there when we return in the fall. Plan to head north for the summers for now til we get too old to travel with an rv safely. How about water quality, electric rates? Are there different companies providing these and your recommendations. Appreciate the input.

I would contact a realtor and see what is available. Prices have gone up so it might be hard to meet all your needs for $150,000 Best wishes.

Spinwear, good for you in considing the water quality/availability and elect rates. Many would never consider these fundamentals.

That is why the houses are so cheap. As far as "specialty grocery shopping", there is none, unless you count the health food store (which is expensive). There are a lot of homeless people and druggies who hang out in Kingman, outside the WalMart, the grocery stores, outside the fast food joints and along the highway ramps.
Kingman reminds me a lot of Redding, CA, in this regard.

Kingman is Arizona's version of Barstow.

To be fair, this is true of most "Junction towns" in the U.S., no matter where they are located.

A "Junction town", being at the convergence of major highways and interstates, will always have transients.

For places like Kingman and Barstow the situation is aggravated by their close proximity to Las Vegas, Nevada.

People who are headed to Las Vegas (but didn't quite make it) will be stranded in Kingman or Barstow, and people who lost their asses in Las Vegas will also be stranded in Kingman or Barstow.

Needles also feels the same way, to an extent.
