Hi,

My father retired in Arizona and can no longer drive. He gave me his car (I live in California). He has a disabled placard on the car. Does anyone know what is required? Do the plates need to be returned to the AZ MVD?

Thank you!
Brenda

I think that would be the best course of action. You could contact AZ MVD for more info.

You turn the placard into the CA DMV when you reregister the vehicle. They also will issue you new standard plates & destroy the old ones.

Thanks. I live in California though. Just registered it and they didn't collect the AZ plate so not sure what to do. I tried looking on the AZ MVD site but it doesn't address that specific question.

I think the plates belong to the OP now. Depending on the registration left on the old disability registration, his father may be entitled to a refund if he completes the information on the AZ MVD website.

Thanks. What is OP?

I submitted the form online for him and he'll get a few bucks back on that.

When I transferred my car from Minnesota to Arizona they took my old placard & replaced it with an Arizona placard. Turn it into the DMV, they'll take care of it.
