Maybe they're like to New Yorkers who move to Florida, don't like it, and then moved halfway back into the Carolina areas.

I think I read they are called the "halfways".

I think those who move to the Carolinas are called "halfbacks."

Lots of kids in my daughter's school who are from other states and moved here recently because their parents' jobs took them here.

In the last few weeks, I see more plates from Canada - snowbirds I'd guess - as well as Alaska, MN, even a couple Maine plates.

Phoenix has been attracting people from all over the US and world for a long time, and in the last few years, with the local economy accelerating and more tech companies moving here, it's pretty much inevitable. TX and AZ are both siphoning off a lot of California's commerce as big companies leave due to the taxes and regulations; there's going to be a fair amount of movement between the three states as everything re-orders.

I can't talk about it much because I'm a recent transplant, but I hope it doesn't change the character of the area too much. I didn't want to bring the New England coldness or California's zany politics with me... I was trying to get away from it.
New England? I was born and raised in Massachusetts and miss it dearly... in the fall. However, we enjoy how wide open AZ is and how we are never too far from a decent hike in the mountains.

California is a magnet of interest for people anywhere in the world having money for real estate and aggression toward success. It's where wealthy (and sometimes not so wealthy) immigrants choose to live in the US. Additionally, motivated people can go to California on a bus, have children, and leave with a trailer. It's a stressful life, but a real estate investment (should one be able to afford) can land a boatload of money. Eventually, they wise up and look for something else to do with that money. A Californian who can't afford to retire in California can purchase a substantial part of Texas. It's not impossible that they carry that stress with them.

California is becoming a bit of a job factory for the world. It's imminent that people will want to leave California one day. Arizona's leaders, who want jobs for their public, will attract the kind of people who created Californian wealth.

My guess is that moving away from California to Arizona is much like moving away from the United States to Mexico. Many go to where the US expats live in Mexico and are happy being with people in a similar situation. Others choose to venture out into traditional Mexico, and are happy to do something different. In the same way, one can follow California expats into various parts of Arizona. People are generally good, and welcoming, even if sometimes irritating. It's all good if it happens to be what you're looking for. You choose what inspires, and what is tolerable.
Very interesting analogy.

Should be the other way around, are lots of Arizonans moving to Texas? I'm one of them. Left Arizona last summer and moved to the DFW area. Prices are too high in Arizona especially in the Phoenix area. My rent in Ft Worth is a little less than what I was paying in Mesa and the whole DFW area seems to have more to offer. I don't see the attraction about Arizona other than decent winter weather and recreation. Summers are unbearably hot and long-lasting. Texas recreation is a bit more limited, weather is ever-changing and unpleasant sometimes and it's a solid red state but those are the only disadvantages. The same kind of jobs in Arizona can be found in Texas but they have better pay and are more plentiful. Nowhere is a utopia but I'm glad I moved to Texas and got the heck out of Arizona.

Thanks for checking in and glad to hear things are working out for you in Texas.

The way that AZ is voting in the last elections, I think the Californians have changed the "Barry Goldwater State".

I’d argue that Trump did it, not “the Californians”. We’re pretty blue now but people have been voting against the insane MAGA candidates rather than for the Dem candidates. Trump has been a dream for the Dems in AZ.

Perhaps you are right. Why the people of AZ would continue to vote for Kelly who has done nothing about immigration or voted with Schulmer a vast majority of the time is amazing. I still think a lot of it is sympathy for his wife. I am reminded of Sen. Schmitt that was a one term senator in NM. He was also an astronaut . People said he may have gone into space but what has he done on earth for NM?

Hobbs didn't even bother to debate yet she squeaked by . Lake ran a great campaign. The "ground game " and ballot harvesting is something she needs to work on.

I know. Democracy is a pesky thing, isn't it.
