Could anyone recommend a retirement village - preferably in a smaller town than Phoenix or Tucson? We are looking to become "Snowbirds" this fall and we're use to small rural town life. Would appreciate any help or advise anyone has.

Both Phoenix and Tucson are sprawling metropolises. You might like one of the planned communities for 55+ that is gated, secure, has activities, golf, clubhouse, shopping etc right at hand. Trilogy and Robson Ranch comes to mind. Google them.

You didn't say what kind of climate you are looking for. Check out the link below to get an idea about the state's climate zones.

I would recommend you read the book "Leisureville" before you consider moving to ANY retirement village. I can't remember the author's name but it came out within the past year or so and shouldn't be hard to find. It was an eye-opener for me. I had no idea about how some of these places operated.

There are alot of options as others are saying, but from what I see, keep Casa Grande in mind. Im not a senior, but they are definitely here in force right now! We have two large 55+ single family home communities (at least) one is Ironwood Village and the other is Mission Royale. Both are about a mile from the hospital, a mile from our mall, and gated. There is also a VERY large mobile home park called Palm Creek. Im guessing about 3000 spaces altogether with lots of RV parking. Finally, as someone else mentioned there is a Robson Ranch development in nearby Eloy, AZ. Eloy is a town of less than 10K population, but you will have to drive a few miles when you want services into Casa Grande. By the way, Casa Grande is about 50K population right now...will grow in the future though if that matters.

I think the reason CG is so popular with seniors and snowbirders is that it is halfway BETWEEN Tucson and Phoenix an hour or so in either direction, is right on I 10 and I 8 (I 8 is straight shot into San Diego etc) so they can make alot of choices using this as a home base.

Good luck!

There's also Green Valley, south of Tucson.
