We used to live in the Phoenix area, moved 5 years ago to Texas. Wow what a mistake.
Is anywhere in Arizona affordable anymore. In the 5 years we have been gone home prices have actually doubled from what I can tell in Az.

Help, really need out of Texas where everything sucks.

That's true they have doubled and yes if you missed out on selling your house in the last year or so you missed out on $$$.

How much are you looking to spend? Prices are coming down some but nothing like 5 years ago.

From what I hear the weather is HORRIBLE!!!!

Where in TX are you? Maybe you could find another community there?

I am currently in a small historic area 35 miles east of Austin in the Pine Trees, It is near the small town of Bastrop and I live in Lost Pines/ http://www.bastroptexas.net/
The major problem here is the summer humidity and my house is 3 years old, custom built and valued at $167,000 on one acre in the tall pine trees, 1800 sq ft with annual property taxes of $3600.(wow sticker shock)
I would like to spend in the $160,000 range.
The home I sold was a new subdivision in Goodyear, built by Fulton Homes and sold for $147,500 and the same model in not as nice an area in Avondale is $290,000.
So you can see the dilema.
The only area that I can find homes in my price range in Arizona is in Rio Rico,
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Greg

I think you could find a decent condo for that price, but I really don't know about a house. Sorry.

I recently moved to Mesa from Illinois and I have seen some very nice homes - 3 BR's with a pool in nice neighborhoods for 190 on up

Arizona city,Casa Grande, Queen Creek and Maricopa still have new builds for around 170.000 o and also Suprise AZ. Just got back from AZ and I was looking up to 200,000 price range. The homes in the Suprise area weere gorgeous and I looked in Laveen and they were cheap also but the surrounding area wasnt so hot. Good Luck. but do it now cause I think they will go up by next year again.

Moving from the Midwest to Arizona is sticker shock, isn't it? However, a couple things to keep in mind. Wages are possibly higher here. Taxes are lower (you'll probably be saving about $2000+ in taxes = about $150 to $200/mo add'l funds to put toward a higher mortgage). So possibly you might be able to afford more house here than you think you can.

First thing I'd suggest is to talk to a couple of good lenders in AZ and see how much home you can afford. Maybe you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Most lenders will "qualify you" for double what you really should be spending so keep that in mind.

My opinion... a lot of people don't agree with me.
