The Fouke Monster AKA Bigfoot legend has been around here forever. Lots of people feel it is a hoax, but many people believe it is real. Those around here who have had experiences generally have nothing to say because they think others will think they are crazy. The sulpher river area near Fouke is a general hotspot. You can check out Mercer Bayou, it is pulic land that you can camp, hunt, and fish on. BEWARE, mercer is basically a swamp and if you are on the water after dark, plan on staying there. I know tons of people that have gotten lost there and had to wait until daylight so they could get back. My uncle had an experience there that took him years to talk about and he still won't talk to strangers about it. Also, years ago there was a hoakey movie made about it called the Legend of Boggy creek. The movie is bad, but it is based on witness accounts on the Fouke area. I have never seen it, but I have smelled it, heard things, seen large footprints with 6 toes, and had dogs running back home with their tails tucked between their legs.

I have been over into McCurtain County OK and have had some interesting times. Rocks thrown at us, trees shaking (big trees), Trees weighed down with logs that weigh at least 40lbs on a 16 degree slope and after searching cannot find where the log originated from. Siren like howling (deep and long) that breaks into coyote yips halfway thru. Crow calls that sound so fake. It is a real hoot to experience this stuff.

Where is Mercer Bayou?

The big foots only want to be left alone. People comming near where they live on ATVs and 4x4s frightens them, They are very timid..

My bet would be that it's a hoax. My grandparents used to actually live on the Mercer Bayou "the mound" there - yep, they were pretty poor back in the day. I would fish (run trot lines in the middle of the night) and duck hunt (at the crack of dawn) with my Dad there growing up. We saw lots of snakes and gators...but No "Big Foot".
