And Japan is a first world nation? Why is it still necessary for these Japanese to bludgeon tens of thousands of dolphins each year for this tradition? The photo in the Chinese newsreel show a dolphin who escaped the nets of the fishermen, but ended up ramming itself to death trying escape past the rocks. Very sad.

One is an animal grown specifically for food and work for centuries among many culture, including the Japanese . One is a wild animal that has been proven through science to be highly intelligent.
Let's get something straight: just because it's "tradition" doesn't make it right!
It's barbaric and inhumane and should be outlawed and stopped!
Throwing water at each other in the streets or lighting candles on wreaths and floating them down rivers are "traditions" but these events aren't brutal or barbaric! Blowing up firecrackers at New Year's is a tradition and, although it can be unsafe, it's generally held by most as fun and enjoyment. It's not brutal or barbaric or bloody - intentionally!
The senseless killing and eating of dogs in China or these dolphins in Japan because it's "tradition" is just archaic, asinine and downright cruel! You'd think that in today's age, we'd have grown past these events and grown up as cultures!

OK. You two argue about the tradition or culture.
Killing wild kangaroos in Australia is no problem because according to pennyone, being intelligent or not is the key.
I have two questions then.
Would someone like pennyone insist someday those who have developmental disability can be killed because they are not highly intelligent?
9These shall ye eat of all that are in the waters: whatsoever hath fins and scales in the waters, in the seas, and in the rivers, them shall ye eat. 10And all that have not fins and scales in the seas, and in the rivers, of all that move in the waters, and of any living thing which is in the waters, they shall be an abomination unto you: 11They shall be even an abomination unto you; ye shall not eat of their flesh, but ye shall have their carcases in abomination. 12Whatsoever hath no fins nor scales in the waters, that shall be an abomination unto you.
OK, now I understand why those who are influenced by the Bible are afraid of octopuses

Is it related to Christianity?
This has got to be the most ridiculous bait and switch argument I've ever seen....We are dealing with an intelligent species not grown for food, and dolphins and whales are not cows or humans. Your weak attempt at defending the barbaric slaughter of dolphins as something similar to the slaughter of cows for food is already flimsy. Now, a parallel to some sort of eugenic attempt at eliminating certain groups of people is even more ridiculous.
I really do think there should be even more worldwide attention and publicity about the Japanese tradition of killing whales and dolphins. I am sure many Japanese won't like it.

Who cares about Christianity or the Bible? How is it relevant to the thread? Dolphins and whales are extremely intelligent, and the Japanese need to stop this brutal tradition.

Why does intelligence matter? If it matters, you should insist not-that-intelligent humans can be killed too.
