"My war on Christmas begins this week. My fascist, liberal, Muslim, secular, jack-booted socialist pagan violation of all that’s held dear by the devout, heroic, gun-toting, vote-suppressing, callous, job-creating patriotic real Americans begins this week.
...
I will continue to use “Christmas” and “holidays” interchangeably.
I will continue to mock those who have a problem with this.
...
I will disguise my boundless evil by being of a good cheer towards all men and woman and animals that don’t bite me.
...
Christmas is doomed."
"happy holidays" does derive from "Happy Holy Days" so it is odd that any theists take too much offence to it.
It reminds me of those rare atheists who get obsessed with people using Religious Linguistics in their every days speech... but they will happily say "Goodbye" while being oblivious to the fact it derives from "Good be with you" or they will have a happy Thursday ignorant to the fact it derives from "Thors day".
I think in my 35 years on this planet I have learned one simple fact. There is a significant minority on this planet who simply SEEK a chance to take offence.
I've never understood the "Happy Holidays" moral panic of some of my co-religionists. If anything, I find greater fault with TV shows and movies that make Christmas just look like it's about Santa or what not and not about the birth of Christ. Let's be honest, there are a lot of holidays near Christmas - New Year's Day, Hanukkah, Orthodox Christmas, Boxing Day, even Thanksgiving, etc., so I can understand why they call it the "Holiday Season".
It is starting to sound like the thread title should be "Accused of being wrong/evil for simply being inclusive".
Stout Atheist Dave Allen used to end his comedy sets with "May your god go with you". A parting that I find kind and inclusive.
The willingness of others to attack tolerance as intolerance makes me wonder at the true motive of those who spend so much time calling FOR tolerance.
One thing I am learning in my cynical old age is that there are simply too many definitions of "tolerance" out there to... well.... tolerate.
I have not tolerance for intolerance. So tolerate that!
