IMO there is a difference between "religion-ist" [fundy/militant type thinker] and a person that thinks we are part of a larger more complex system. A difference between a person that says "Its my deity" vs "GOD is just a place holder for something I think but I do not know."
To me, FFR crosses the the thick grey line between freedom of religion and atheist run state. Anti-god is as dangerous as my-god-only. The members are useful to toss at fundy theist tho. Then the rational's can come in and clean up the mess.
China? Nazi Germany? Russia? I dont know if they are all completely devoid of religion though. Fundamentally an atheist state is not free if it suppresses religious freedom. Anything suppressed will only grow stronger and spread and become fundamentalist. Same as a theist state.

Keeping church and state separate does not suppress religion; it is the ultimate religious freedom. Religious people should be the most ardent supporters of FFRF.

Amen.
Entanglement of religion and government corrupts both. This is obvious from history.

None of them were atheist states as none of them were run with atheism as a political position. Considering what atheism is, the idea of an atheist state is a silly idea that is used by the less intelligent to attack atheism.
China - Communist China has had religious freedom for most of it's existence.
Nazi Germany - Christian, sometimes persecuted atheists, tried it's own version of Christianity.
Russia - Had religious freedom for most of it's existence, persecuted anyone they thought opposed the state (not just religion), Russia today is using the Russian Orthodox religion to promote nationalism.

Separation of church and state has been around for a long time, it is not a novel concept discovered by atheists. It is the natural state in many non-Abrahamic majority states from ancient times.
The response was to an Atheist run state, which will be a new concept. If the state is against god, it would be a problem for religion to flourish, for places of worship and religious attire and celebrations to be. Communist China did demolish temples and all vestiges of religion and even culture in China, even in Tibet. But religion is coming back there as well.

True, there has never been an atheist state, run with atheism as the state's position. So what would one look like if God is banned? Why is it a silly idea to conceive? Why do you feel attacked by the mere suggestion of an idea?

What would be the point in doing that (banning God)?

I have no idea.

Could you run a country on not believing in Yetis or UFOs? What would your commerce, healthcare, defense, justice, education, etc, be based on?

Because when the religious attack outsiders, it hurts or you die. So the more people who falsely promote atheism as an evil, then more people are promoting hatred.
