I'm intelligent and apply logic and reason, which I sincerely hope is not rare.

True, and everyone you ask is also above average in all those areas as well. I'm simply noting, that atheism & conservatism (even more so ultra-conservatism) are less the norm.

There are highly intelligent, logical, reasoning people in all walks of life, who's opinions differ wildly.

I am atheist. God might exist. These two statements do not conflict.
I agree. It really is that simple.

I ask for the traits of the "god" thing.

Died and rose from the dead ... nope
there are things that gnaw at a man gizzard worse than death ... yup.
There is nothing more complex ... see died ands rose from the dead.

Eh, my sister is a conservative atheist, as was another poster, Marc Paolella, who has since left the forum--saying he was going to Reddit.

I am an athiest and a fiscal conservative. Socially I am a little to the left of middle. Social conservatives tend to use religion as the basis of their political beliefs.

Some people use facts, studies, empirical data, etc.

Some people use ancient books written thousands of years ago; they use ideas focused on magic, superstition, and authoritarian rule.

Again, how can I guy sort through all the noise?

Deny everything just is too faith based. I just don't have enough blind faith. I need something more that "no deity" and "team unity" distort, hide, and mislead people because religion is so dangerous it justifies us being less than honest.

Its ok for atheist to believe in some thing more. Its not ok to cover up those beliefs because we are fighting religion. Fundy think theist do that kind of thing.
