I always wonder if people are referring to homosexual acts or homosexual emotions. And then I wonder how easy it is for someone to feel emotionally compelled towards something as opposed to being able to resist the urges. One can say that perhaps some of us are born with certain emotional attachments. For some, they may feel a very particular attachment to God, for example. Yet, I think it would be very hard for them to act in opposition to this - although quite possible. And then there are those of us who are not born feeling very attached to religious beliefs and we may act differently.

So, I suppose my main question is this. What are you considering homosexual? The act or the emotion? Because I think it's entirely natural to act on our emotions and feel content such as a homosexual person may act on their emotions towards a member of the same sex just as those who are religious or non-religious act on their emotions towards belief or non-belief in God. What people seem to be afraid of is the act itself because they feel that it is unnatural. And while it may be unnatural in the colloquial sense of reproduction, it still does not detract from the very natural and sane feelings of emotion and love directed towards members of the same sex. So, with that, I think that it is psychologically and emotionally damaging to feel ostracized and unnatural based on the acts that are driven by emotions - especially emotions and acts driven out of love.

People love members of the opposite itsex and act on it. People love members of the same sex and act on it. I fail to see how any of that is unnatural.

GCS, I tried to rep you again but it won't let me.

I think you hit the nail on the head with this one. I think that far too many people can't separate the emotion with the act. When they hear the word gay or homosexual, they're immediately thinking of sex. Why is that? Do they automatically think about sex when they see a straight couple?

As for people changing their mind as freedom was referring to, I think there are a number of factors. One is that many straight people explore non-traditional sex. It doesn't mean they're gay - it means they're curious. Then there are those who fear the horrible treatment many gays receive because of their sexuality, so they fight against it, and spend their lives (or a good portion of it) denying who they really are.

This is why the emotional vs the sexual aspect should be separated. True homosexuality has little to do with the what people are doing with their genitalia, and more to do with their being as a whole - the emotional side. A true homosexual may spend his or her life living as a straight person, but I don't think they will ever honestly fall in love with a person of the opposite sex. They may love them, but won't be IN love with them.

The problem with Christians is that a sinful thought already is a sin.
So whether homosexuality is an emotion or an act, a Christian would have to interpret it as a sin, because it would be considered an inappropriate emotion which easily translates to being tempted.

From your question I can deduce that you obviously have never been in the army.
Or played in an all male team-sport (like football or basketball).

So you have never been called gay or a homosexual when you have shown insecurity or made a mistake?
When I was in the army this was the norm.
As I understand it the American army has a don't ask don't tell policy, which I find ambiguous.

Another complete mystery is that famous football teams and such generally have no homosexuals on the team, while the statistics would say that this would be incorrect.

No in my day they called people f-gs. And if it was said seriously, then there was a fight.
Regardless my comment to you was based on your sweeping generalization of what you call homophobe's and men with issues with gays.

godspeed,

freedom

So you are saying that homophobes absolutely have no issues with gays?

I'm saying that people that think being gay is not an acceptable moral behaviour, are not phobic, or fearful. They just know its not the best way to live, and certainly not acceptable to God's plan for our existence.

godspeed,

freedom
