The world around me proves there is no god. There is far too much randomness to believe anyone is pulling the strings. "God's Will" and "God does things in his own time" are just excuses. If everything is God's will, then God is sadistic.
Forgive me if someone else has said this already, as I only skimmed through the thread...
One reason (among MANY) that I'm an atheist is because I've always felt that having blind 'faith' in something, that has yet to be explained by science, is kind of like giving up on learning.
When something can't be explained...why just say it's supernatural? I've always found of the joys of life is NOT knowing, and the constant search for explaining the unknown.
Another is that I have no fear of death/afterlife. Do you fear the time before you were born? No? Then why fear the time after you die...
am glad I am not one.......I feel safe today, oh God will
show you his wrath one-day...GOOD-LUCK
Thanks!
Anyway, I wish the words "Atheist" and "theist" were never invented, (or at least rarely used.)
Instead I wish there was one word that described people who think that the generally accepted principles of the scientific method are the best way to determine what is really true, and another word to describe people who think that the best way to discover the truth is to rely on the text of some letters written 2000 years ago and the feeling in their heart.

Classic. The above post is an example of fear of god's wrath as a reason to be a christian. I have a simple belief that as long as there were belief systems, there were those who did not believe in those systems, whether they be pagan, hindu, buddhism, or otherwise.
Even in the Americas, there is evidence humans walked this portion of the earth some 12,000 years before present. Even in the archaic era, which is what 8K to 3K years before present and even up to the point of no return (aka 1492) there have been humans with their own beliefs.
And there has been and always will be people who simply choose to follow their own path and not be force-fed a belief system which includes illogical and fear-mongering, hateful and deluded beliefs!
Even amongst my own people, back in the times before the white man came, there were people who did not hold to the beliefs in "mystery" or "inconcievable powers".
the pink squid, I love that last line of yours:

Exactly! I believe that is one reason the very old and the very young get along so well, they are both closer to the spirit world~one coming in and one preparing to leave this realm.

Statements like this are one of the reasons I am an atheist. A loving god that shows wrath to those who couldn't believe in something there is no evidence for? Ya right.
I don't see how any curious, open minded, questioning person could be anything but an atheist. Reading and believing how everything came to be out of a book, any book just doesn't work for me.
