I don't believe in Santa, is that a "belief system" too? Besides the religious people say offensive things about atheists all the time. Why is that acceptable but the reverse is not?

There is no atheist belief system.

Goodness me, we're in a mood.

I posit that, for some, thoughts behind (and leading to) atheism/agnosticism include the capacity for humor, irony, and satire. We already think "outside the box" according to every organized faith...perhaps the two are married in some respects.

I'm just saying that it seems many religious people are painfully, consistently SERIOUS. Morbid, almost. Killjoys.

Nun humor is nothing new. (Neither is atheist/christian/pagan humor.) Libel is something different--was the story about a real person?

Do you say the same thing to blacks (or any other race) when jokes are made poking fun of their race? How narrow-minded you are...

Santa's non-existance can be proven with 100% certainty. Bad analogy there.

It is not acceptable. As far as I understand it, these forums are for an exchange of thoughts and ideas... not a place for bashing/insulting/making fun of anyone. As for me, I'm a barely-religious agnostic and identify so much more with the folks on this forum than the religious forum. If someone comes on here and makes fun of atheists or agnostics I'd take issue with that as well.

For the record - I did not report the thread, despite the fact that I found it terribly insulting.

"Puritanism' - the haunting fear that someone, somewhere may be happy."

You don't need to believe silly things to be a member of a specific race.
