I plan on moving my family to GA next year, depending on when our house sells. We are looking for a few towns to check out on our visit. Thanks to the previous post I will try to answer as many questions as I can.

1. Budget--- depends a lot on my husbands job but here we would be in
the $125,000-$150,000 range, but we aren't affraid of a fixer
upper in a great area as we are pretty handy
2. House/Condo/Townhome?--- home only
3. Employment Status(commute/work from home)--- my hubby would be
commuting, probably looking for a job in downtown
Atlanta. Ideally we would prefer to keep his commute in
rush hour to an hour or under.
4. Children(public school vs. private)--- would prefer to have a great
public school, we have 2 toddlers and a teenager
5. Suburban or Urban lifestyle preference or a mix of the two--- we want
to be close to things to do, not necessarily walking distance
but a short drive. we would really like a nice family
neighborhood feel, the type of place we could take the kids
for a walk. Also I plan to open a bakery, because I have one
in my home here in PA, so a nice "main street" feel, in our
town or a nearby town would be great. Something that
would get some foot traffic in front of the stores.
6. Easy access to public transit, important or not?--- hubby would
probably drive but it would be nice to have the option.
7. Preferable demographics of desired neighborhood. I prefer not to be in
the minority, I am happy to have diversity I just want to be in
the majority. ( I am white)

I have looked a little at Douglasville. It seemed to me that the housing prices in Douglasville are very affordable. Maybe someone could clue me in on why they are so cheap or if that's just standard for the area.

Thanks for your help!

Douglasville might be an option. The further you are from the center of the city and the further the commute the less the cost of housing, generally.

There are a couple of threads on the Douglasville-Newnan-Carrollton area if you want to do a search. Go to the top right/Search--click 'Advanced Search' and enter relevant key words.

Economically things are improving slightly. I would do extensive research prior to opening a new business.

Madison, GA is a bit too far for a daily commute but it certainly has a lovely small town ambience.

Southeast of Atlanta--perhaps an hour and a half.
