Yard signs may tell you who the most enthusiastic campaigners are, but the actual votes tell you where people truly stand. As indicated above, the 7th district (North Buckhead) is split just about equally, with a slight edge to the Republicans.

The 8th district, which is Northwest Atlanta, skews Republican, although Democrats still pulled close to 40% (5,000 Obama vs. 8,000 McCain).

For example, Jimmy Carter was considered a conservative Democrat. LOL.
The only thing funny is your biased interpretation of the data. The single-family neighborhoods of Buckhead are at least 75% conservative, and have been for decades. The only thing that has changed things is the condo towers. Condo owners tend to be young, and the young lean democratic until they start making more money and realize it aint that cool having to give so much of that money to the government. This explains why plessthanpointohfive sees so many McCain yard signs while running.

And are you really trying to compare the politics of Jimmy Carter to the politics of Buckhead residents? Jimmy Carter was from Plains, Georgia. Rural Georgia Democrats and urban Georgia Democrats were completely different animals, with the urban Democrats changing to Republican decades before the rural ones. There was this little thing called white flight in the 1960s that may have had something to do with it. The old school Georgia Democrats living in Buckhead went extinct along with segregation. Their rural counterparts went extinct with the old Georgia flag.

Save the dramatics....

Point blank, data has presented to show that Buckhead is far from being 75% conservative. Obviously, it is the most conservative/republican area ITP by a long shot, but not exactly a hard thing to be. I think it is fair to say that Buckhead as a whole whether it be the high rise neighborhoods or the SFH neighborhoods is probably slight less than about two thirds conservative politically. Living there (as I do) you get the sense that political discourse varies quite wildly and I never see any lack of conservative or liberal bumper stickers, election signs, etc.

It doesn't however come even close to true conservative areas OTP like say Cherokee county or North Fulton. Spending time in those locations leaves you with no doubt that it is a conservative area through and through. Take for instance the Right Wing Tavern in Woodstock. Something like that would never work here...though I suspect you think it could.

There's some truth in that. People do tend to get more conservative once they get more skin in the game. It's a lot easier to talk about what the government should do with other other people's money, but it's a little different when Dr. Ferdinand says he needs your check for $10,000 within 30 days or he'll have to put a lien on your house.

That gets people grousing about stuff like the fact that the school system has shrunk by 60% but spends over 4 times as much per pupil as it did in the old days. They get even grumpier when they hear that graduation rates are no more than 50%. They grumble even more when it turns out the superintendent is paid $400K a year plus a car with a $100K a year chauffeur. It only rubs salt in the would when they hear that test scores are lagging way behind other districts and that there's widespread cheating to cover it up.

So you wind up with a number of conservative people even in relatively Democratic parts of the city. Half the people in North Buckhead went for McCain, and 30% of the folks in District 6 (Midtown, Candler Park, Virginia-Highland, etc) were McCainites.

However, politics is not all about money. Even in wealthy areas you've got a lot of progressive types, just as you have hardcore right-wingers among the poor.

Georgia is, but not the city of Atlanta. Not by a long shot.

How so?

-One of the largest African-American populations by percentage for major cities

-Third largest GLBT population by percentage of all major cities just slightly behind Seattle and San Francisco at 12.8% (Seattle is 12.9% and San Fran is 15%)

-The representative for the City of Atlanta in House of Representatives is John Lewis...a leading liberal in Congress

-Jimmy Carter's presidential library and political think tank operates out of Atlanta

-Has voted for every Democratic presidential candidate since 1976. Even Mondale and Dukakis won the city with large majorities.

So again, how can you say the City of Atlanta is mostly conservative other than just saying it is?

EDIT

As further proof against this notion that the City of Atlanta as a whole is more conservative than other big cities in the country, in the last mayoral election there was a big "scandal" when one of the leading candidates was accused of being a Republican too which she vehemently opposed and tried to prove how liberal she was even though sort of position her self to be the conservative?

So, if the City of Atlanta was mostly conservative, why would some literally lose their lunch over being labeled a republican (when they probably are?
