Hi! Moving to Atlanta soon- Just wondering if there there are any traditional conservative neighborhoods in the perimeter? Seems like most of what I have read on here talks about how liberal certain areas are. Anything on the other end of the political spectrum?
Thanks!

You probably want Council District 8 (Northwest Atlanta). That's heavy duty Republican territory. It's beautiful up there, too. Click on District 8 for a larger map.

Yolanda Adrean would be your councilperson. http://citycouncil.atlantaga.gov/8.htm

There are plenty of other conservatives in the city but they're probably less concentrated in most places.

I agree with Arjay. NW Atl/Vinings is predominately conservative. Those are the "rich, Bentley driving corporate vampires that have sucked the blood out of middle class America while keeping there Gucci loafers firmly on the throat of the poor" type of conservatives. Sandy Springs has a lot of "I send my children to private school so why should I have to pay taxes for public schools?' conservatives. Buckhead has a lot of "I like to read Forbes and imagine myself on the Richest People in America list when I'm on my lunch break during a hard day of trading." conservatives.

The rest of ITP is pretty much a bunch of tree hugging hippie pinkos and their domestic partners.

The "get the hell off my g&ddamn land you commie fascist guvmint worker" conservatives are usually pretty far outside the perimeter.

The Lakeside High School Area is somewhat Republican-ish...

That would be my suggestion for the city proper. Maaaaybe District 9 (NoBu), but this district is half and half. Outside the city proper, but still ITP, would be parts of Sandy Springs and Dunwoody.

And that's about it...but that doesn't mean a conservative wouldn't get along in the dozens of other districts around the city and I've known plenty that have. The only thing that would be a limiting factor is if you are uncomfortable living around non-conservatives.

And where are you getting the info/data that North Buckhead is half and half? Sounds like some hardcore wishful thinking. All of Buckhead is at least 75% conservative, including sub-areas like North Buckhead and adjoining areas such as Brookhaven and Sandy Springs.

Half and half is about right. The Republicans might have a little edge there but not much. District 8 is a different story.

Oh, I know you're joking but that's not true at all. The bigwigs up in Buckhead are the ones who gave us the High Museum, the Symphony, the pro sports teams, the Aquarium, our tall buildings, hospitals, foundations, universities and other big city amenities. I get the impression they like being rich but in a place like Atlanta many of them are self-made (to the extent anyone is self-made) and a lot of them are foreign born. You won't see many Bentleys up that way either -- far too gauche for the quietly well to do. Don't forget that a major portion of the money that supports APS and other public institutions comes from that neck of the woods, too.

I say let them grouse. Every city has to have a place or two where the intown rich people can roost. Just think, they could have all moved to Alpharetty.

The orthodox Jewish neighborhood near Emory would definitely qualify. I believe they call it Toco Hills.

Interesting. I'm guessing all the condo towers have something to do with this.
