Could Thrashers Leave Town? - 11Alive.com | WXIA | Atlanta, GA

Could the Atlanta Thrashers end up leaving Atlanta? That's what some fans think could happen. But one season ticket holder said he's not going to let it happen while sitting down. Chris Ciovacco, a Thrashers season ticket holder, is calling on civic leaders to step up before it's too late.

How many cities have lost two NHL teams? First the Flames to Calgary now the Thrashers to either Winnipeg or Quebec. I really thought that since Atlanta has about double the population since losing the Flames that the Thrashers would be a fixture even if a small percentage of Atlanta cared.

I don't follow hockey so i really don't care. I'm surprised in a way that hockey has a following at all in the South. Are they relying on Northern transplants to go to the games?

Canadians live hockey 24/7/52 and since hockey is almost played year round (like basketball the seasons are too long) they'll support the team. Besides, Atlanta is already saturated with sports teams as it is. I mean we even have minor league baseball and hockey. Usually minor league teams are pushed off to the mid-major cities.

if that is the case we should say bye bye to 70% of the hockey teams because most of them have low sales

I hope they stay. I wasn't a huge Thrashers fan until I went to a game, they are so much fun.

every sports team in atlanta has bad attendance... even the braves are middle of the pack. i wonder how strong the correlation b/t the traffic and attendence is. Back in the 90's before everything blew up, Atl always had high attendance in all it's sports.

Fine, send them to whatever cities want them. Move more teams to Canada if need be.

Hockey is the only game where the refs look the other way during fights. It's what the fans come to see. Something's wrong with a game that frustrates the players to the point they take swings at each other. Guess it's too easy for the players to give cheap shots.

Only when the teams are middle of the pack, you have to win games to draw a crowd. Everybody loves winners. The teams have to stop Choking!!!!!!!!!!!! in the big games when they get there.
