This is only a few slots down from UNC, hence calling any said comparisons to UNC 'laughable' is, well, laughable in itself.

America's Best Colleges List

Georgia Tech ranked #84 in the World.

UGA? Unranked.

That Forbes methodology is laughable.

Would you care to expound on how exactly the Forbes methodology is laughable? Forbes annual college rankings are among the foremost and respected rankings in existence throughout academia. I'm guessing you find their rankings laughable simply because you don't agree with their overall findings. If Forbes had GT ranked much higher and UGA lower, you'd be lauding their findings instead of flippantly dismissing them.

Regardless, I'm quite amused at what seems to be an inferiority complex among GT alums when the subject of UGA is discussed in any manner. Even with facts starring you in the face, you refuse to acknowledge them and instead continue myriad ad hominem attacks on UGA. You'd be better served by admitting that UGA indeed is a very good, if not great university that has made tremendous strides over the years while also proudly representing your school, which is among the very best engineering schools in the country. My fellow UVA alums have a lot of respect for UGA and certainly don't perceive UGA as academically inferior to GT at all.

I guess that makes our views laughable, which in turn makes our #1 public university ranking is laughable as well in your eyes for harboring such insidious views.

Blah Blah Blah.

I've said UGA is a decent school before. However, it is not a great school by any stretch.

Forbes is respected for their ranking methodology? Have you even looked at their criteria?

17.5% of the score comes from "RateMyProfessor.com" Seriously.
10% comes from retention rates Really? I thought college was about challenging students to achieve greatness through learning. If that means there is a higher attrition rate, so be it. I guess pushing as many graduates through the pipeline is what REALLY makes a good college. Everyone gets a diploma! YAY!
10% from Who's Who in America. Again, Epic stupidity.
17.5% student debt Almost 1/5th of what makes a college good is how much debt a student graduates with?
15% for Payscale Earnings Earning potential and financial ROI on the degree is less important than the debt you might incur while in college? Good thinking

Go ahead and type up another long response, but your credibility is shot due to your inability to demonstrate critical reasoning. Instead of looking at facts and methodology you go to the ever so important "My fellow UVA alums have a lot of respect for UGA and certainly don't perceive UGA as academically inferior to GT at all" metric. Wow. Who can argue with such logic. Thomas Jefferson would be proud.

Yep! Kinda or re-enforces the smugness stigma UVA grads get. I have a ranking....

SmartMoney

1. GT
4. UGA
16. UVA
Unranked: UNC

How is Forbes' rankings the foremost and respected in existence throughout academia? Academia mostly fuss over US News' rankings.

They did write "among the foremost. . ."

But I agree, for undergraduate education USN is pretty much the defacto king. I'd also note than on the word stage, Chapel Hill is recognized (at #43 on Times Higher Education), while Athens reputation is a bit nebulous (around #200 to #225).

As a research institution (which most of these rankings look at), Chapel Hill beats Athens over and over. It is only when you start looking at the more. . .interesting rankings that these things start to switch up a bit (for someone with no interest in graduate work or research UGA might be a better option over UNC financially).

Forbes is well-known for it's ridiculous lists, and there are plenty of examples. I mean, who knew Houston was America's coolest city? Houston Tops Our List Of America's Coolest Cities - Forbes
