Thanks, Aries. The Gnat Line is clearly defined in this image.

I'm glad y'all like.

The official elevation of the City of Atlanta is 1,070 or 1,050 feet above sea level--depending on the source. I think this elevation is "taken" at the Capitol or somewhere along Peachtree.

What many people don't realize is how high the elevation is in other parts of Metro Atlanta..."red" on the map means 350 meters above sea level or higher--in American terms, this means greater than or equal to roughly 1,150 feet above sea level!

I was surprised at the high elevation of Haralson County and surrounding areas. Going further west into Alabama along I 20, you know you have gone up in elevation, but didn't realize this area was so high.

Hey, Aries, go weigh in on my thread about the Brookhaven/Ashford name change for the proposed city.

OH ABSOLUTELY ST. MARKS! Many people don't realize that the HIGHEST POINT IN ALABAMA is Mounta Cheaha, which is actually SOUTH of I-20 in Clebourne County -- about 25 miles due east of CARROLLTON, GA!

Cheaha Mountain - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As for the Georgia elevation map, I always get a kick out of seeing that bright red / pink spot that marks PINE MOUNTAIN down near Columbus in your beloved MERIWETHER COUNTY -- which in my book is one of the 7 natural wonders of Georgia just because of where it's at, a mountain rising out of the flat Piedmont of West Central GA!

Spent so much of my growing up years in Warm Springs, FDR State Park, Pine Mountain and Callaway Gardens. That area is a true wonder. The Cove area of Meriwether is also a fantastic place where the Pine Mountain Ridge encircles a lovely valley in the southeastern corner of Meriwether between Woodbury and Manchester. The Sprewell Bluff area where the Flint River flows thru the Pine Mountain Ridge is another special place.

Good deal, it needs a bump on the Atlanta page. Probably should have titled the thread "Brookhaven, GA no more, now to be Ashford, GA" to get a little more traction. Is there a way for the creator of a thread to go back and rename it?

FORGOT ABOUT SPRUILL BLUFF! Awesome place! I'll bet 95 percent of the people in Georgia (or certainly Metro Atlanta) have never laid their eyes on Pine Mountain and would be shocked to discover there is a breathtakingly beautiful chunk of Appalacia ONE HOUR SOUTH of Hartsfield-Jackson Airport!
