As I read that it seems to be about beautifying it and not actually helping with traffic. Though I guess I wouldn't mind looking at pretty plants and painted walls stuck in traffic.

You want my 2 cents? Build a new beautiful top deck for the connector. The bottom is for traffic that needs to exit/enter the city. The top deck is an "EXPRESS" for vehicles that need to just go through downtown without stopping in downtown. Give room for a Marta line to stop at ATL Station and then to go to Cobb.

I can't believe they included a photo of FLEX (gay bathhouse)! How funny!

Reverse the order (express traffic on the bottom, local traffic on top) and I will support your bid.

Well if the expressway is on top its just like building a big ass bridge instead of having to build the exits they would already exist for local traffic.

You have the right idea. The downtown connector is choking metro Atlanta's economy. Double-decking it would be messy, but it's the most cost-effective way to double capacity.

This state and city are doomed unless they start building some new freeways.

Freeways are not the answer. Atlanta's highways are only clogged during rush hour and major events at the dome, turner field or elsewhere. Although there is a lot of cars, traveling though these areas at off peak hours reveal other problems that have nothing to do with the cars. As mentioned, there is bad connectivity between arterials. When traveling on arterial, often the lights are not synchronized to the point that it seems on purpose. Atlanta also has very bad signage. Instead of overhead street signs and directional sign pointing to highways or points of interest, many intersection have hidden sign on one corner or in some cases none at all.

I would support improvements to existing interchanges or the addition of ramps (ie Peachtree @ I-85 to connect to I-75 and improvements at North Ave./Spring St. exit); but not building more lanes or more freeways.

Freeways are not the sole answer but still part of it. Atlanta is a huge hub, these 18 wheelers are going nowhere and they seem to grow every year in number. Quite frankly 285 should have a truck only lane b/c WAY TO MANY ACCIDENTS involve these trucks.

The expressway idea would really help with going to and from the airport as well.

Note my idea did include Marta as well.

IMHO, what really screws up traffic on the connector is the crap-poor design of the flow to I-20. That alone backs traffic up for miles. I think a good redesign of the whole I-20 intersetion is in order.

North Ave. (for you SB people) also does a pretty good job at killing flow.
