There was nothing ever "free market" about Haiti from the outset. You are right; the U.S. and France made sure of that.

Heck, I wished you had said more.

People need to hear more of the brutal truth from the African American perspective and not just the same ol' repackaged far-right southern conservative stuff.

Actually I had about a whole page in detail. However knowing how certain people on here act,it would just wind up on a deaf ear and the moderators would have erased it for veering off topic.

I understand.

Sometimes on city-data, the subtle nuanced approach is the best approach when dealing with this motley crew(no pun intended).

I'm actually considering looking at Libertarianism from more of a leftist perspective.

I don't know if it's the same for you, but I feel that this perspective is more in line with representing TRUE freedom, not this pro-corporatist feudalistic statist crap endemic of American conservatism that's been shoved down our throats for the last 40 or so years, if not longer.

It's time I think, to rethink the whole notion of liberterianism from another point of view. Luckily there are those out there, however few in number, who feel the same.

What is left libertarianism? | leftlibertarian.org

Left-libertarianism - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I gotta say this: it is truly disturbing how some folks on city-data can claim their love of liberty under one breath, but will condone actions easily attributed to a police state under the other.

That's not true liberty...that's a perversion of the individual freedoms accorded to we the people by our U.S. Constitution.

The Republicans are theoretically in favor of less intervention in the economy, but they are a stone cold lock to have the government intrude more in your private life. At least the Democrats perform well in that one area.

Also, the fixation on marginal tax rates is completely absurd. If the anti-tax people were actually coming up with clever ways to decrease the scope of services of government I would be intrigued by them, but anybody can sit there and say taxes need to be lower without offering any actual ideas for decreasing the liabilities of the government. Meanwhile, they bash immigrants and gays and so forth, which I find disgusting.

You tend to read too much in a person's comments.

I never said I outright advocate for this stuff. To paraphrase, I'm simply saying that I would find libertarianism much more easier to stomach if it was from the perspective I mentioned and not from the typical southern conservative mindset.

Quite frankly, I must defer to the wisdom of the founding fathers when they had created a document demanding that a stronger central government was essential to keeping the union together. It was definitely forward-thinking on their part to ensure that minorities of all stripes have a say in government.

Long-story short: Libertarian-minded people of all stripes still have a huge hill to climb before they convince me to jump on board.

Reply if you want, but that's all I have to say to you on this issue.

The only difference between right libertarians and left libertarians is that the left libertarians believe in the labor theory of value and thus not only hate coercive government but also hate any system where they see another person having more power or resources. Labor theory rules all, not private property to them.

I remember being in a libertarian group on MySpace with these people. They often clash with regular libertarian on property rights but we all had the mutual respect that statist governments were bad. They took it to the next level actually. While many right libertarians were minimalist the left libertarians were almost purely anarchist. They hate the thought of you who supports something like the fed as much as they hated us for supporting corporations.

I would still rather have then around then liberals and neo cons. They don't actually want to use force get what they want via coercion of government. Once states are gone we can work out those details naturally. They are like libertarians who used to be socialist.

Well you can't have everything. And I was just in Charlotte (my parents live there) and I don't see what the big deal is?? Even with several expansion projects currently under construction or planned around Charlotte, Atlanta metro still has superior infrastructure...

ROFL...Awww having a hard time accepting that the HUGE MAJORITY doesn't care about baby jesus and what the right-wing christian nuts tell us we have to do and not do?

So blame it on the 'passionate alcoholics' turning out to vote. And the oblivious 'majority' christian right-wing nuts not turning out to vote

Oh well...Baby jesus hates us now, we can buy alcohol on Sundays. Well maybe if we can just get another glorious right-wing christian nut, i.e. Republican, into office then we can start a few more wars, pass a few highly intrusive/discriminatory laws that jesus says we need, and god will love us again! ROFLMAO...

As a former Charlottean myself, I think "the big deal" is that the state of NC doesn't have its foot on the neck of Charlotte like Georgia does with Atlanta. Of course Atlanta has superior infrastructure, as it should given the huge size difference. But it's quite impressive to see the strides that Charlotte is making in several areas, thanks to progressive city and state leadership. Atlanta has enjoyed the former for as long as any other city in the Southeast, but the latter is almost wholly absent.
