That's a fair question, but THIS train has alreadty promoted growth, and they haven't even laid the first inch of track. Go look at Edgewood. There is a lot of small business investment going on over there, all the way from Krog Street to the connector.

My recollection is that all that was well underway long before there were plans for a streetcar.

I'm not saying the streetcar is a bad thing or that it isn't a positive part of the mix. But it's hard to determine how much actual impact it will have as an economic generator.

Several new businesses have opened on Edgewood* within the last two or three months. Now, who would open a business in the middle of a construction site if they didn't think the streetcar was going to attract customers in the long term?

When I say Edgewood, I am referring to the Edgewood Avenue, and not the Edgewood Retail Mall on Moreland.

I'm not sure we can say without asking the owner.

As I say, the streetcar may be a factor but most of the new businesses along Edgewood predate the streetcar.

That might be true, but since groundbreaking, EVERY empty storefront (and there were a lot of them) has been snatched up and is either open as a new business, or is going to open soon. Some of the older stores that have been there forever are under renovation. I think that's a pretty obvious indicator that the area is expected to have some increased business thanks in part to the streetcar.

Hopefully the same thing will happen on Auburn Ave. An old building near the connector that has been empty for as long as I can remember is finally up for sale. It'd be great to see someone come along and rehab it into something useful.

I didn't think about that before. That street is hopping on weekend nights! Will be a nice perk to have a rail connection to MARTA.

Anyone know what kind of operating hours they are eyeing for this thing?

As you have chosen to ignore my previous post to your early remarks,I assume its due to lack of any facts to disprove what I stated.
So again where in the world where there are streetcar systems that are failing due to lack of ridership?
Also what cities where they have them are people wanting too get rid of them?
Still waiting........

The easiet way to see that is to look and see where the streetcars in current cities today exist are.
