Gladys Knights Chicken and Waffes (I don't here enough people talk about it)

Peachtree Center transit station (I really get a feel of NY at this station)

Peachtree Center district (the mall and the hotels that interconnect is amazing, tons of eateries on the street, a HUGE starbucks too).

The Forum on Peachtree Parkway. Its one of the best built shopping districts in Atlanta, and just about everything is there. I guess being OTP kind of kills the hype though.

Northpoint Mall (I think it's way better than Lenox, but always lives in Lenox mall's shadow

The Chattahoochee River - most people love to point out Atlanta isn't close to water, but a pretty decent river flows through a lot of the metro. Most of it isn't polluted anymore and you can tube, paddle, fish, and swim in it.

Marta

Southwest Atlanta green spaces/parks
Historic architecture (including the burbs)- it can go largely unnoticed by someone not familiar with streets/neighborhoods off the main drags

The diversity of cultures in Atlanta is well known, but I don't know how many folks appreciate how Atlanta is very different from most cities with traditional immigrant neighborhoods. I love how we (again, including the burbs)seem to have a mix of cultures from eastern Europe, Africa, middle East, South Asia, etc...with stores/eateries sharing the same strip malls. It's no longer restricted to being a "Buford Hwy" phenomenon. On that note, we have some incredibly good places to eat that aren't tourist grade renditions of a cuisine, but the real deal with fierce competition.

The high museum. I always see people steer tourists to the aquarium, coke, etc, but the high has not only remained a first class attraction, but has successfully kept the 20-40 crowd (like me) interested with its MoMA partnership and its various evening events.

Spivey hall. Yes clayco is wretched these days, but this is always has been an incredible space to hear exquisite performances.

Spivey Hall concerts are definitely worth the drive if you live on the other side of town. No one seems to know or talk about Spivey Hall but it is an excellent venue for music.

People don't talk much about the High Museum either. Definitely a good place to go to.
