Villa Rica is not considered a suburb of Atlanta - it is a bit too far out. So you will likely not get a great deal of input in this forum.

That being said, I have a friend that works for the City of Villa Rica and I will be happy to ask her some of your questions.

I would expect Cost of Living (inc Property Taxes) to be low and Traffic to be light - you are talking about a relatively small town at least 1 hour outside of Atlanta. There are safe neighborhoods everywhere and since they have a Publix, I assume they have nice grocery stores.

What you need to be concerned about is what is your ideal retirement lifestyle. You will be quite far from most activities in the Metro area, not a problem if you don't mind driving or specifically want a quiet rural town. You will also be quite far from speciality medical care if that is a concern as you age. I would also ask about senior services in the area.

Villa Rica Parks & Recreation

I expect you would drive to Carrolton for shopping etc so that is not an issue.

Why are you specifically looking at Villa Rica?

I was looking at the area, homes, prices, etc online and it looks like a quiet area with light traffic and fairly reasonably priced homes. My hobby is racing pigeons, some places don't allow you to keep pigeons, so I got a list of pigeon flyers in the Atlanta area and the towns they lived in and Villa Rica was one of the towns. I want slow and quiet, I'm not looking for big city night life, malls, movies and the like. all I usually use is grocery store, wal-mart, lowes and sometimes redbox. Would also like to find a good Church.

Villa Rica was once a sleepy little town. Over the past decade, the population has boomed and the businesses have really multiplied.

Mirror Lake is a planned residental and golf community that is in the city limits. Some parts of it are in neighboring Douglas County. I suspect there a some retirees in the development.

Shopping in Villa Rica is still pretty limited, but it's still growing. There is a nice Publix for your grocery store shopping. Wal-Mart is in Villa Rica too. A lot of people commute and work to nearby Carrollton and Douglasville, which boasts a fairly large mall and many more shopping options.
