My parents are moving from Charlotte to Atlanta to be closer to my sister and I. They are retired and would check the box 60-75. They would like to be in a bedroom community close to or around Atlanta. The max they want to purchase a home for is 315,000-320,000. They don't require a "huge" home, because they are empty nesters, but they will need space for grandkids. They want to be in a ready-made community, however not too extremely far from the city. Someone recommended Brookhaven. What are your thoughts?? And if not Brookhaven, any suggestions?? Thanks!!

Not sure if they will find a house in the price range, but City Of Decatur is an option. Also, considering their ages, renting should an option.

That type of community isn't really what Brookhaven is all about.

Mansions, highrises, and dirty old apartments. There are a lot of nice rowhouses, though. But, as others have said, it's probably not the kind of place they would be their cup of tea. Decatur is a good choice, as well as Downtown East Point...but a lot of people will scare you about the latter (even though it's a bunch of nonsense). So, Decatur.

Well it really isn't the "ready-made community" type of place. And I certainly wouldn't call it a "bedroom community". We are talking older homes that have been renovated or tear downs, with little in the price range you mentioned. My realtor says Brookhaven is the hottest market in metro Atlanta right now.

Could you define bedroom community?

Also a bit more about where you and your sister live (what part of town)?

There are several highrises in Brookhaven that cater to elderly residents but most of them are mucho dinero.

Still, worth checking into...the stretch of Peachtree that runs from Peachtree-Dunwoody to N Druid Hills Rd pretty much caters to seniors. Lenbrook, Renaissance, Canterbury, et al. My DH and I refer to it as our 'next stop'.
