The 14-day quarantines on arrival are going to make international travel almost nonexistent in some markets for a while.

Agreed. This summer is going to be a dead vacation season. Even a trip to Mexico seems ill-advised right now, with the possibility of quarantine/shutdown/everything closed/whatever. And travel deals aren't even that cheap outside of the US.

Here's what Warren Buffet came to believe about the future of the air travel industry & what he then did to his Berkshire Holdings portfolio.

Well, my international travel is shot this year but good thing we live in a large diverse country. It's important for the country not to stay stagnant though.

We were planning a road trip across country. Not sure how the situations are in the other states, but maybe have to skip California.

I nearly did this a few months back when the Pandemic broke out while I was bored at home. I wasnt going to get out of my car for anything but food and gas. I posted on their forum and they basically told me not to come and they were under a pretty strict shelter-at-home order.

I live actually almost equal distance between Los Angeles and Atlanta. Atlanta being slightly closer. I may reconsider going.

Edit: Here is the thread: https://www.city-data.com/forum/cali...ornia-los.html

Edit 2: Be wary however if you do decide to go. There are immigration checkpoints along I-10 and I-40 in the western states, mainly Western Texas, Arizona, New Mexico and California. I don't -think- they will question things regarding your travels but not 100% sure either. That was another thing that swayed my mind.

Edit 3: I'd also avoid any densly populated area like your life depends on it.

Good. Those planes are so primitive with the in-flight entertainment.

That thread was all in March so not sure how much has changed. I might just go to Arizona and then drive back if the situation in California doesn't improve by then.

Are they the former Northwest Airlines planes? I remember flying to Atlanta when I was living in Tokyo on a 777 and having those personal screens in each seat, but right after the merger that route was using one of their old 747's. It was like going back in time 10 years. You can only watch what was showing on the TV's in the aisles. Btw I was thinking about the old days when they had the big projector screens and analog channel dial.

No, none of them came from Northwest. They were already flying many shorter flights anyway so the need for personal entertainment was pretty low. A few years ago they added extra seats by removing the rear galley because they knew they would never serve food on them again. A lot of their flights over the last year have been out and backs from Atlanta to nearby places like Memphis, Chattanooga, Knoxville, Nashville, St. Louis, etc...

Northwest didn't really have anything besides overhead entertainment. All A330's, 757-300's, A319's, A320's, 747's & DC-9's came from Northwest. They also had 757-200's that were added to Delta's existing fleet. Delta used to have DC-9's but they had got rid of them back in the early 90's. Delta kept the DC-9-50's for a few years. They quickly disposed of the DC-9-30's and the 747-200 freighters that Northwest operated.
