Interesting. Any details on where it goes from here? Are the N. DeKalb cityhood attempts dead for the year?

Not sure, but if I had to guess I would say yes. I'll add more info as I get it.

I still don't get the name Lakeside. But it looks like they won.

Nobody has won anything yet.

Interesting take on this issue from the Peach Pundit. (Misleading headline, though, since "tabled" does not mean "failed.")

Indeed an interesting take from Peach Pundit.

The AJC is reporting that a compromise has been worked out where Lakeside concedes the Midvale district and the commercial areas south of Northlake Mall to Tucker. Both cities would be allowed to vote on incorporation, and Briarcliff would be killed.

If Lakeside does go forward, any bets it adopts the Briarcliff name before it's all said and done?

It's certainly a better name than Lakeside, but I don't think they'll change the name.

Why do you call it Lakeside?

Lakeside” is a working name. We need to know our final boundaries before we can get to the point of naming the city, and we have a great deal of work to do before we get to that point. The name “Lakeside” was an attempt to avoid using names of places that might give the appearance that one area (Oak Grove, Northlake, Briarcliff Woods, Hawthorne, etc.) was more important than the other.

Do you have a link to the AJC article? I think that compromise is what needs to happen. Tucker gets Midvale and part of Northlake and kill Briarcliff. (But I support calling the city Briarcliff or something other than Lakeside).
