To be more specific, if one had to be in Marietta by 8am and they were traveling from the Pleasant Hill Road exit in Duluth?

Thanks in advance.

Maybe leave home no later than 6:30 or 6:45? Traffic is a bear in Gwinnett that time of the morning.

Depends quite a bit on WHERE in Marietta...the worst of it will probably be your slice of the perimeter(I-285) and the transition to I-75 if that is where you are headed. Some folks will say you are headed against the worst traffic, others will disagree. The truck traffic along that route is miserable any time of the day, even without our usual jackknifed 18-wheeler or pileup. In round numbers, Windy Hill Rd(1st exit north of 285 on 75) is 24ish miles from Pleasant Hill Rd...I would leave no later than 7AM and hope for the best...might get there in time for a cup of coffee.

If you are going beyond Windy Hill Rd., add about 2 minutes per mile to the above.

i would consider living in marietta, acworth, or kennesaw. otherwise, your new Atlanta home might be I-285.

If you were to leave from Duluth at 7AM. there is no way that you will be in Marietta by 8AM.

Thanks everyone for their responses. Based on the address I mapquested, it would be the first exit -Windy Hill Road. Someone mentioned a co-worker was able to commute in 45 minutes from Sugar Hill to Marietta (Windy Hill exit) in 45 minutes.

39+ miles in 45 minutes...maybe at 3AM on a cafe racer. There ARE times you can run the speed limit and above on 85/285/75 but most people are asleep...certainly not rush hour. Windy Hill can take 10 minutes per block just getting around the crowds entering Chick-fil-A.

There are three ways to get from Sugar Hill to Marietta in less than one hour in rush hour(s) traffic in Atlanta...

1) Private aircraft.

2) Clicking ruby slippers together three times while simultaneously gritting teeth.

3) Transporter.

I think you get the idea. Unless you're very VERY lucky, one hour is a dream come true which might occur a couple of days per year during certain Federal Holiday days, etc.

As others have suggested, and you'll learn once here, Atlanta has a commandment that's written in stone that basically goes something like, "Thou shalt live on the same side of the metro as thy work is, or thou shalt sit in traffic for 3 hours of each dayeth"... or, something along that line.

45 minutes no way! Plan on at least 1.5 hours in good weather and 2.0 hours in bad weather.

MAYBE 45 min from exit to exit - but you have to add extra time for getting on and off the interstate and traveling surface roads. That could actually take longer than the interstate portion of your drive.

There are back roads from Sugar Hill to Marietta. Duluth is not in Sugar Hill.
