Depending on your work, you'd probably make the same in Toledo. I worked in property management for many years in Atlanta and property managers here make $10K more on average than we paid in Atlanta to our property managers. We provided public housing services to seniors in Atlanta and our social workers, admin assistants, receptions, and all others make more here than there and cost of living is lower.

Please don't be all super defensive, but it is the truth for many people I knew there. They get a side hustle in order to be able to have some additional income, not to get rid of their jobs. They don't want to pay out of the wazoo for health insurance, dental, vision, etc. things that employers usually provide benefits for and which can be extremely pricey to get on your own, even with ACA/Obamacare options.

Many of the people I worked with in Atlanta had side businesses specifically for extra money for vacations or to pay certain bills (usually a car note).

ETA: In DC people in government especially (and I do work in government) are very well paid, thought the COL is so high that many of them don't reap the benefits of their wages due to housing costs in particular which is why I would never want to move there even though I know people there who wanted me to move there when I was looking at options outside of Atlanta. Maybe when my kids grow up and if there are still opportunities in my field, I'd move to DC as I won't have as many expenses and wouldn't mind living in a smaller place.

Eh, you're the one who revived the thread after it having no comments for a few days in order to state that people in Atlanta are more "hustle" types and DC are more "stable working" types. If you didn't want people to comment on it, you shouldn't have posted that.

Having a hustle doesn't mean that someone is going to up and quit their job. Those in DC with stable careers have no reason to have a hustle. They are satisfied with their careers and financial earnings for the most part.

Many of the "hustle" types in Atlanta are wannabe rappers or reality TV stars instead of real business people. Not all, but many of them are and most will never be fully self sufficient.

I wont speak on people hustling its just putting "hustlers" above white collar working class doesnt make any sense. Glad Im not the only one feeling that way.

I should have used the term ambitious instead of hustling. People have bigger dreams instead of working a 9 to 5 for the next 40 years

So that's reflected to an extent in an entrepreneurial populace in Atlanta, if you will.
I may have missed the point because Im not impressed, im not impress with ATL arrogance, if DC suffers from the same illness then Im not impressed with them either. Whatever man some people like to justify arrogance and bougie attitudes, its just really my style. Im more laid back.

Dude their are plenty of social circles in Atlanta that are laid back. Stay out the ghetto spots making it rain and get some culture.

I agree with you. A lot of people with 9 to 5's in Atlanta have a side job/hustle/business. And Atlanta is way more entertainment industry-focused compared to DC. So it makes sense that a lot of people in Atlanta will be trying to make it in music or acting while working a regular job.

In Atlanta people are like "I work at this office during the day, but I'm about to blow up as a singer/artist/actor."

In DC it's more like "I work for Senator Blah Blah (as a receptionist) 15 hours a day and he now almost remembers my name.

Not for me and many of my colleagues. I am certain I've verified this in my field so I can say this doesn't apply for me or all.

My point is it's silly say this is the case for everyone. It depends on many factors including your industry and it's demand.
