East Village
West Village
Lower East Side
Hell's Kitchen
42nd street Times Square-Murray Hill
Flatiron
Chelsea

In fact most neighborhoods have a bar concentrated zones areas in NYC
Ok, so you mentioned whole neighborhoods with homes, businesses, groceries stores etc, that happen to have a cluster of neighborhood bars in them or bars scattered about. Even ATL has that ( EAV, Edgewood etc).

That is different then something like Bourbon Street or the Vegas Strip that are almost if not exclusively night life areas. This is what people think downtown Atlanta needs for conventioneers so they don't have to research and travel to our neighborhoods for bars/nightlife.

Th, e placesI usially go to have free parking, which is something unique as many other cities require you to find parking in the area. About the panhandling, one time a guy actually came into cookout to panhandle. I saw him outside and was waiting for him to leave but I guess he had less patience and came in the place. At another cookout, they had a police officer and I think a aecurity guard also walking around outside checking the perimeter. I was like man...this is some official sh**. Panhandling must pay well because it is literally everywhere I have been to in Atlanta and its like...its like ey have an app to find people who just parked or left a xlub. They are on it. Sometimes its like they appear out of.thin air like some hoodini.
That reminds me of the time years ago we went to the Varsity. Some lady was going around saying she was with some charity. I knew better but my friend from rural Texas obliged and gave her something like ten bucks. A worker later came by and said that lady was homeless and comes in a lot.

The difference is a lot of those places are well known. A lot of people don't even know midtown or Buckhead exists much less the smaller neighborhoods. I mean, in Manhattan if all else fails you can just go to Times Square or Rockefeller Plaza and figure something out. It's not just the need for a focal point, it's the need for something well known to outsiders.

I don't disagree that this is true too, but it's silly to use to NYC as an example since most places aren't going to have their neighborhoods etched in pop culture like that. If I go to any city outside of NYC, Miami ( south beach), NOLA ( Bourbon) or Vegas (Strip) in the U.S. and I am not familiar with it I will have to research "where the party at" to some degree.

We would do better to both advertise our districts better and offer something close to the conventions. The thing is bar districts work best when they are organically made most of the time which why the neighborhood ones do so well vs what was tried in Underground. I am curious to see how the new Braves stadium bar district they made will hold up off-season. If those are successful something artificially made downtown could work.

This is true. Although some folks will turn their noses up at this, Charlotte actually does a good job of concentrating both convention/sports venues and nightlife options downtown.

I mean, finding the best turn-up in ATL ( and probably the same for places like LA or Chicago too) is always going to require you to be in the know even if we put a bunch of generic tourist bars downtown and it sucks that many folks visiting can't find that turn-up.

I am trying to buy a home now, so maybe if enough outsiders think it's boring here it will help me find a sweet deal, lol.

Chicago is loaded with bars/clubs and restaurants. Everyone will tell a visitor to start at "Rush and Division". That's the Chicago party district, but of course there are so many more like Wrigleyville, River North, Lincoln Park, Ukranian Village and on and on and on...

On the flipside, I went to LA a few times over the last couple years and could not find anywhere to drink/party downtown. Best I could find was some boring Irish Pub and a semi interesting bar close to skid row, lol. I was also in New York recently and that town is rockin just about everywhere!

LA is a happening place everywhere else but downtown, but that's starting to change somewhat. Love that place.

This is not directed at anyone here, but if nightlife is something you're into, and you can't be bothered to do a Google search prior to your trip, you are a terrible person.

Ew, I hope not. None of those bro-down bars look fun.

Who said there weren't a bunch of bar/club in Chicago? Come on now.
