At least y'all have Metallica, Roger Waters, and Bob Seger. Come on to Columbia for Foo Fighters.

Those two acts did not skip Atlanta this year. Chainsmokers played at Shakey Beats in May, and Bruno Mars will play at Music Midtown this fall.

It's an interesting thing you've uncovered and I think you're right about rock bands passing up Atlanta. But it wasn't always like that.
Yep, it wasn't always like that...

I think the real factor here is that:

-Phillips and MBS aren't ready for shows yet.
-Shaky Knees and Music Midtown ensure big name acts don't have to double dip with a regular tour date here.
-Bonnaroo

I think it must also be understood that "rock" music isn't what it used to be. Just look at this thread about the bands people are lamenting not coming here. No disrespect at all to U2, Coldplay, or Foo Fighters but these bands had their heyday a long time ago. At this point they are just raking what cash they can because they can based on their name along, not because they are making waves in the music industry.

On top of that, these bands (and all "rock" band) have swung way in to the pop end of the pendulum. The pure, real deal rock and roll that used to be common has moved underground. Even with that, can any new band that has made waves with rock and roll in the last year. Hell, the last 5 to 10 years. The genre (if there ever was one) is slowly falling to the wayside.

Now, why is it that say NYC or LA or Chicago still gets a lot of these acts? Simple: Money. Lots of it. So much so they really don't have to worry about doing tours in every big city in the States, so long as they hit up the big festivals during the summer. Bonnaroo and the Altanta-based festivals cover them there so they don't need to push themselves to do an individual show here.

Good post.

And it seems everyone lamenting about this on this thread are GenX or older.

I already said that. I should have clarified that these aren't arena venues like the other cities. Not everyone likes to be outside.
