I am going to visit a friend in Chattanooga, right after work today. I work right off of GA 400 and Northridge Road (exit 6). I am looking for a short cut that will not only save me massive time...but avoid major traffic as well.

I don't know of a short cut but can you leave before 3PM?

If I were you, I would drive north on 400 and get off at exit 13. Drive northwest on Bethelview Road to Highway 20. Then, go west on 20 to 75 north to Chattanooga.

I'm sure someone will have a better suggestion but you could try Roswell Rd to Marietta and hopefully the traffic will move better the further you get from Atlanta.

Taking 20 across as noted above would be incredibly painful at that time of day, as 20 is a 2-lane road. If it was me, I'd just stay at the office until at least 6, and then take 400 to 285 to 75- by that time some of the traffic will be gone. Any way you slice it, that's not going to be a pleasant ride at that time of day, unless you're making the trip via helicopter.....

The helicopter traffic at 5 on Friday is usually pretty nasty, too.

Greg's not going to save you- there's no magical, top-secret express route to get from where you are to where you're going, I'm sorry to say.

If you ever want 'the road to yourself' from Marietta to Chattanooga try the week after Christmas. It was unbelievable. I think Bob K has it right--wait a couple of hours and avoid the crush.

I want to visit that Riverwalk area again. Absolutely incredible. The river/mountains--magnificent.
