Our yard really needs some work - cleaning out old overgrown plantings in the front yard, leveling the unlandscaped back yard and putting down some grass and mulch.

When we moved to our house over six years ago, it had a nice, fairly maintenance-free wooded back yard, in common with all the adjacent properties. Since then, two abutting properties (one next door, one behind) have been cleared and converted to conventional grassy back yards, and last spring our trees were thinned by taking out some pines that died. This last evidently left so much more light getting to the ground that last summer a weed plantation burst forth. This isn't going to do. I can't afford a high end landscaper but I really need some basic work done to create a more civilized yard out there.

Any suggestions as to how to search? Online searching seems to pretty easily turn up full-service landscaping firms which I suspect are out of my price range. I googled a contractor I've seen working at a neighbor's property and found a long list of very off-putting consumer complaints. Any ideas? Help!

I'd recommend looking on Atlanta, GA Restaurant, Contractor, Doctor & Home Service Reviews - Kudzu.com for a list of lawn contractors and how they are rated. Whenever I need a contractor and I can't find any referrals, I go to that site first. This is not an advertisement for that site because I have no affiliation with them.
