And I wonder why Charlotte didnt go for the bid in 1990 and Atlanta was able too i guess because with our lower city population we left charlotte in the dust.

Do you guys think another city in the SE like Nashville could ever get the Olympics? I personally like Nashville more than Charlotte, because it's better for young people with the music industry and nightlife. Also Nashville if you look at the map is equally as networked as Atlanta as far as interstate connections.

Wow...I got chills looking at that video. What a great moment for the city. Getting those Olympics changed the way our city was viewed Domestically and Abroad. I know for a fact that I probably wouldn't be here If those Olympics games weren't here that year. Due to the large scale development that happened after the announcement and the number of companies and people that came here it made the city much more cosmopolitan and it's still changing for the better. Thanks for the post!

Nashville doesn't even come close to having the infrastructure needed to host an Olympics. I can't even imagine all of the construction that would have to take place just to have venues for the events...there must be a certain percentage of venue space already in existence for a city to be considered. I believe that a city needs to have a minimum number of hotel rooms as well, and I don't know Nashville's status in that area.

.

I was living in Atlanta when this announcement was made... I remember it well. My husband was signed up with a temp agency at the time and ended up being called upon to sell newspapers at the intersection of Spring Street and Marietta Street Downtown.

I was working on the 17th floor of 40 Marietta Street, overlooking Five Points MARTA station. I still remember the roar when the announcement was made.

That was the day to be Downtown Atlanta ! ! ! ! ! !

Not to worry; it's not what I would call a capital offense.

I was in my first class of the fall semester at Georgia State waiting for the prof to show up when we heard the roar coming from Underground Atlanta. Definitely a spine-tingling moment.

Bu there there was the debut of Whatizit? at the close of the Barcelona games. Barf.

I did highly enjoy my 5A - 3P workdays during the games.
