The race ended really close! 50% Kasim Reed 50% Mary Norwood. Kasim is ahead by 758 votes I think but I think they're going to do a recount.

I thought these results were still excluding the absentee, early and advance votes?

Edit: Forget it. I see on the AJC minute by minute page those votes have been counted excluding the provisonal ballots which will be done on Thursday...

Whoa..what a race to the finish....

Well, the most glaring example was the radio commercial ad that Shirley Franklin, Andrew Young, and U.S. Rep. John Lewis did on behalf of Fulton County Commishoner Chairman John Eaves. Telling people that electing Republicans being akin to inviting attacks from fire hoses and biting dogs is as tasteless as they come as it makes light of the many hateful events of the past and the victims of those events.

Believe, me I can come up with many many, examples of tasteless appeals to race, whether they are overt or subtle. Bill Campbell has made some of those when he was on trial for tax fraud.

That crap is or should be over. No more. NO MORE....

There will be a recount. Whether he wins or not I doubt that will be the final margin.

There will be a recount of any stray votes left over, and by reports, nothing is "official" until an official result is declared at noon on Saturday after all recounts and other issues are dealt with.

This is a standard process when you have an election of any two people when the results are so close. Had Norwood been ahead by 750 votes, the other side would be juggling recounts and checking voting machines as well, so nothing is going to happen that wouldn't have happened anyway on such a close election. Until that official result announcement however, there really is not a Mayor-elect yet.

I suspect the demographic which reads City-Data is not an accurate cross-section of the folks who actually voted in the election.

The election looks surprisingly close to me...
