Edited to add: Parking is going to be bad period this weekend. It's a fact of life in a major city on a holiday weekend.

It would be fine for me. I'm not quite certain of what kindafedup is looking for.

'Close to nightlife' was a priority earlier today.

I am the sort of person who could/would get lost driving in an unfamiliar area--and I hate to pay for parking.
(Never go to Buckhead myself--would not pay the prices --on principle. I used to go... Now I consider it a tourist trap...)

If anyone knows how to plan a 'GetAway' or a vacation to Atlanta--maybe we should start a thread like that. I have a terrible time finding accomodations for friends who visit--cannot imagine how frustrating it must be for those who have never been here.

I know I would be in tears--driving in the night--looking for my hotel/motel. I have lived here for decades and have been really lost at times. jmo. The metor area is so big and there are so many cars and if you don't know where you are going---you could get killed.

sls

How would you explain how to go from the Paces Ferry La Quinta to Buckhead/Lenox Phipps? To someone who does not know the area?

Ohoh
u mean get murdered or in an accident?? Im getting a bit nervous now after reading some of the posts, but Im still going to go. Ive decided against the delk rd courtyard but am almost sure i wont find anything else. I just hope that i dont get lost.... ohmy.. well this is probably not the best idea but gotta live. I m alittle worrid about the area being a 'theives den' and dont wanna be south atlanta now, but i do want to be downtown or where the nightclubs are... not so sure what to do right now...

thanks everyone who posted especially with the references.. im checking out some of those hotels again now.

Thumbs up No--not 'murdered, etc'

The traffic--'kills' me--people drive too fast and you have to know where to change lanes. If you are going to Delk Rd/Marietta--be prepared to encounter some fast traffic. I 75 N--lots of large trucks--headed north...

By the time you drive 7/8 hrs--jmo--you will be tired. Make a reservation somewhere and get specific directions to that location. You don't want to waste your time or gas driving around lost.

Maybe the posters who know the areas of the city can compile some sort of regional list.

This might really be a bad weekend--every year--to try to visit midtown/Virginia Highlands---Jazz Festival in Piedmont Park. And there are other annual events which make it difficult to plan a spontaneous getaway.

I would save my $ and find a really nice, reasonably priced motel/hotel and plan a trip--nice restaurant--a few good night spots.

You can easily get 'ripped off' ---in Buckhead--high prices--infuriates me.

There are 'Better' places in Atlanta.

take care (((kindafedup)))

I like the Jameson Inns--located throughout the SE--not really in the Atlanta area. Moderately priced, clean, safe, pretty...

I am not sure if you have made your trip or not. I went to Atl. for Easter week(I am a single black lady) and I stayed in Morrow at the Extended Stay Hotel. Quiet Clean Place!!! 59 dollars a night. Some extended stays were cheaper. Go to the ES site. Have FUN there.

Actually ATL is a commonly used abbreviation for Atlanta, long before the rappers decided to make it popular. For example ATL is the code assigned by the FAA for Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. It is common to use FAA codes as shorthand for cities. I just think the criticism was a little harsh.

Sorry for the tangent.

I was looking for this thread so that I could update (I started a new one because I couldnt find it). Well I did not go to Atlanta after all. I ended up meeting a friend in Tennessee, so that I would not end up in the wrong areas of Atlanta alone. I will still go to Atlanta and keep all of the info I got from you all in mind. I have to agree with everyone who told me that I should not be going on a last minute trip alone to the city. I get it. I will make it to Atlanta, but it will be a thoroughly planned trip with a buddy or two. All advice was duly noted and much appreciated.

Thanks again

And thanks for clearing that up. I wasn't sure if me using 'ATL' was offending the native residents. I'm glad to see it's an accepted abbreviation. I'm certainly not trying to step on any toes here.

Apparently it is offensive to some but to most it is not. I wouldn't use it during a conversation (although you do hear it sometimes) but on the internet its fine.
