One Aiken businessman thinks there is a strong chance of the use of electric vehicles growing in popularity and has plans to build free charging stations around the CSRA. Norman Dunagan, owner of Dumpster Depot, has committed to establishing 27 free charging stations around Richmond, Columbia and Aiken counties by the end of 2015. - See more at: Are Electric Vehicles the Wave of the Future? This is good news for the area, my personal opinion is that electric vehicles are a nice alternative to combustible vehicles but will they will only be limited to individual preference and fill a niche market. Similar to Natural gas vehicles and about in par with diesel engines vs gasoline. Uless vast improvements are made in battery technology for the electric engine I don't see them having mass appeal.

I agree, with the current oil glut brought on by fracking, less people will dish out top money up front for a car on the promise of better fuel economy, especially in light of the fact that new economy cars are hitting +40 MPH for a fraction of what a hybrid or electric costs. On the subject of electrocar charging stations, every small town mayor and his dog is installing them for the federal grant money. I live in a Puerto Rican town with a dwindling population, and City Hall put up six charging stations in a Hybrid/electric-only parking lot that's always empty. The kids use it as a skate park, LOL.
